Exactly. The GAA is at the heart of the majority of communities across Ireland, in a way that soccer could never be.

Quote from: Baile Brigín 2 on October 16, 2025, 01:39:36 PM- Membership is moot. You dont have to join the IRFU to play rugby. Football has more members, but they are members of clubs.

- Convenient. And doesn't apply to rugby.

- I understand that isn't really a thing anymore. Just as per your point 2,the system is skewed towards the GAA and it's setup.

But the headline point stands. Other sports dont get their fair share.

Zero evidence presented.

Headline point stands only in your own head.

I can assure you, I wish our club had a fraction of the community penetration soccer does. That doesn't hold in towns and cities

Because it's rugby?

The argument is the reason the GAA get the, literal, majority of taxpayer funding is because every other sport is a mess.

I'm suggesting there is a built in state favouritism. The GAA got 100% of all funding until Bertie.

More made up rubbish. Soccer got money before Bertie came along.

The is no favouritism. Soccer can't get itself organised. That's no one's fault except theirs.

Rugby has far less clubs and far less members than the GAA.

Captain Scarlet

Rugby has less playing members than Basketball I was told.
But the sess hounds filling the stadium and media coverage helps give it prominence- and a decent team helps too.

If Jarlath Burns was in 37 Dawson St with a GAA credit card and generally being a fool the organisation wouldn't be getting money.

But the FAI wasted loads and simply can't be trusted with funds and governance.

them mysterons are always killing me but im grand after a few days.sickenin aul dose all the same.

Lamps

That's the problem with Irish soccer. Always the victim of some big plot against them.
Maybe of they got their act together, they wouldn't be always in poverty.

Rossfan

I'll exempt 1 soccer club I know from the general malaise.
Boyle Celtic have their own ground, built a standeen, have  an astro area etc.
Helped by some grants but at least they first got off their behinds...
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

No sport other than Gaelic games got one cent of capital grant funding in the 20th century.
