This is how it is going to be. The birthrate has fallen 40% since 2010, your local primary school and GAA club are destined for amalgamation unless people start having children.

I'm not sure that they're entirely folded, but sadly I'm also sure they're not coming back.

I'm not going to relay the full story as I don't know it. But they found themselves homeless, and then ended up in no man's land at the end of an industrial estate. An awful shame.

Where were they before Gerry Brown? Is there not room fo another GAA clubs in Newry, Rathfriland /Belfast Road area?

Benburb used to have a team. Won a couple of Tyrone Junior titles in the 1960's.

Bosco, Glenn, Burren, Warrenpoint, Drumgath, Newry Shamrocks all a kick in the arse away from each other (especially bosco and shamrocks) so if they were any good at GAA parents seemed to have moved them to one of those clubs.

They were playing on Derryleckagh Council pitches after being moved but that again would be a Ballyholland catchment area

Dregish, County Tyrone

Was that not technically an amalgamation with Newtownstewart to form Naomh Eoghan? Always wondered what the benefit to Newtown was in that arrangement as the new team play in their pitch and they seem to provide most of the players?
A few bout Dregish threw a hissyfit when local newspaper said the club had folded and claimed it was an 'amalgamation'. Basically St Eugene's took the Irish version of their name, continued to play at home and took in the remaining couple of Dregish lads. Hardly an amalgamation..

There is more to a club than just a senior team

Lads from the Rathfriland Rd in Newry would have played for Saval too

I could not see Newry people playing for Drumgath? There is nearly 30,000 in Newry, should be another inner Town club.

Do Naomh Eoghan use the Dregish pitch for anything?
Assume they'll maintain it for training at least?

In some cases, you'll see ladies teams and the like taking over pitches of defunct clubs.

Whatever happened to the Abbey school pitch in Newry when the school moved?

Thomas Davis have rebranded themselves as a Newry club. There would also be a few Newry based people playing for Killeavy I'd guess

Derryleckagh is "no man's land" in Down. Anyone born near that playing field could be connected to Ballyholland, Burren, Saval or Mayobridge, by family lines or primary school. The Mitchels moving there was a non-starter.

I think Ogra Colmcille , on the Derry/Tyrone border, are no more.

Were a football club but due to lack of numbers, they folded a few years ago. Their pitch then lay vacant for a few years iirc.

Then a regional hurling club started up in the area. St. Finbarrs and they use that pitch now I think. Not sure if they rent it or bought it?

They have underage teams and are up to junior level at senior level.

Yes,  I was about to  say Benburb. I remember my da  saying  he played  Benburb  years ago in a tournament of some kind

I also remember him saying there were two teams  around Maghery  years ago too.

i didn't know Glenswilly was  only a recent club.  I think Omeath in Louth only  recently formed a club too. Or maybe they've folded since?

Armagh18

Phelim Bradys in Darkely just outside Keady Co Armagh had a team years ago, think they came back in the noughties but have died away again, suppose their catchmwnt would be caught by Keady/Granemore.
