Their butler probably  uses the food bank too

The amount of people I know who cry about  having no money , yet have 3 or 4  holidays a year. Then there's  others who  are never off the road to concerts, hens, nights out , holidays,  and the parents are having to  pay for a tank  of heating oil because they've no  money.

We do live in a  very shallow society. Everyone having to  be seen leading exciting lives , and to hell with the mortgage, food, heating.

A lot of people are  genuinely struggling, I know. But a lot  just don't know how, or want to ,  live within their means

Hard to disagree with anything here.
I will preface this by saying I agree that some people are genuinely struggling with money. I think its as much food education as anything. You absolutely can feed a family for alot less than you think IF you know how to cook. And healthy food has always been and is cheaper than unhealthy food.
However, I can tell you for a fact the Ozempic industry is absolutely flying. Half the country has no problem paying £200/€250 a month for something that will help them lose weight temporarily. And it isn't just Malone Road types either. In fact I think it's more the opposite.
Add that with the amount of higher end cars on the road now. Its ridiculous. Every other car in mid ulster seems to be a Range Rover. Is it all PCP or how is it done?

Not arguing against your main argument, people are definitely living beyond their means. Just one point on the food stuff, unhealthy food is a lot cheaper than proper healthy food. Otherwise places like Iceland wouldn't exist.

Agree on the Range Rovers though, every second car seems to be a top end Defender at 50k + at the moment, difficult to see how this is being done by so many.

Agree 100%.

You would see a lot of car dealers on facebook putting up posts about 'Johnny' or 'Mary' collecting their new BWM / Audi / Mercedes / Range Rover, it is never a Peugeot / Renault / Ford.

I can remember the last recession driving past car dealerships in the months before and the months after, some difference in the quantity and the type of vehicles in the forecourts.

The worst thing is that people probably buy these vehicles and then penny drops down the line re servicing / tyres etc.  Unfortunately with everybody judging everybody some people would probably push back other payments in terms of mortgage / energy bills before they would give up their vehicle, heaven forbid people would be talking about them if they appeared to be downgrading what they drive.

Where is Ireland is it €250 a month for Ozempic? Dearest I found is €185 in Killarney and the rest of the country seems to be between €130 to €160.

I was back home a couple of months ago catching up with some childhood friends.  Out of the six of them, four had either taken or were currently taking Mounjaro/Wegovy, which they were buying online for about £150 a dose. Admittedly, two of them were quite overweight, but the other two were what I'd call fairly average in build, just carrying a little extra here and there. Seems like loads of people are on it these days.

Pure laziness tbh, and god knows what the long term side affects will be. Bar you're morbidly obese I don't think anyone should be taking it.

When 45% of new car sales are PIP related then it's not difficult to understand how people can drive these cars, free services and probably free tax and insurance on top

The reality is they should be given a Reliant Robin type car, that would certainly bring down the costs and stop a few people from driving them.

While I agree the frozen food industry is cheaper for food, you'll get a far healthier lifestyle style from non processed or low processed foods than that shite from the likes of Iceland.

Parents can be lazy or up to their eyes in other things but making fresh food dinners will bring down the obesity levels, giving the nhs a chance

Wegovy is 250+ I should have said. Seems to be more on it now than Ozempic.

The issue for me would be the money needed to fuel these big wagons. Must cost a small mortgage to fill them every week, never mind the servicing etc.

I've been hearing this 'living above their means' for a long time now but nothing has really hppened/changed.

A lot seem to be in the construction industry in some shape or form. Seems to still be a shortage of skilled workers which is keeping wages high in that sector.

thebigfella

It's amazing the cognitive bias when it comes to other people's cars. No doubt there are the odd few people over extending themselves but the vast majority of cars own roads in South Dublin are Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Peugeot etc... and quite a lot of model 3's.

People have a real chip on their shoulder on what other people drive rather than minding their own f**king business. Car ownership has changed in the last 10-20 years, whereby most people just see it as a monthly outgoing like a utility. Hence, why PCP and leasing are popular and owning it outright is no longer seen as dick measuring contest it once was. Also, lots of companies give car allowances in their employee packages as well, which is why people finance stuff.

Full disclosure, all our daily drivers are/have been leased in the last 10-15 years. I'd never buy another car which I use day to day.

Did I hear somewhere that gym membership is down  because of the rise of weight loss jabs.

As you say , who knows the long term affects. But sure,  if the Kardashian's and Robbie Williams are  using them,  they must be safe
