Quote from: screenexile on July 26, 2025, 03:39:48 PM😂😂 don't think we're in any position to lecture Counties about sacking managers the year after success!!

Tyrone fishing around looking for bites since they've beaten us for the first time in about 5 years but they've as much to show for their season as we do.

We'll both be in a better position to know who should be chirping at who when the Ulster Championship gets underway next year!
Indeed.. All Ireland senior semi-finalists, U20 and U17 All Ireland champions, Ulster senior club champions..

Relegated from Division 1, no Ulster championship and no All Ireland. Which men's senior team am I writing about? We can probably save the Derry, Tyrone debate until next year in Division 2. Hopefully with these great Tyrone managers in place we can both push for promotion.
Relegated from NHL Division 2 and the Christy Ring cup as well as NFL Division 1. At senior level, have Tyrone ever had a worse year?

Has been a terrible year for Tyrone hurling. Difference is we aren't in denial about that.
Very optimistic about the football though after two more underage All Ireland succeses and reaching All Ireland senior semi-final.
Derry without a win in senior championship or league football all year and onto manager 4 in 4 years while slagging of Tyrone is embarrassing.. 😊

Well what are you doing on this page if not here for the wind up. It isn't for in depth analysis anyways. At the end of the day Tyrone are and will always be one of the top teams in the country. Fair play. But this is for Derry chat.

Often go to Derry club games same as Derry ones go to Tyrone club matches. Don't expect to see posts on club site slagging off Tyrone though. Can't we just get along? 🤷

In that time we've been more successful at senior football level.

We've also won more at Minor Football, Minor Hurling, U20 hurling and Senior hurling in those 4 years. And, yet, Gaels of Derry aren't on Tyrone chats spouting nonsense.

Well done on the back to back U20 football championships. Was great when we did it with the minors last year

Come back when you've 4 Sam Maguires and more U20/U21 and minor All Irelands than Tyrone.
Boasting bout Div 2 hurling ffs!

Very true. Tyrone did well this year and there is a serious team there so will be contenders. Derry under Meenagh may well get back to top 4 or 5 in the country but we need some time, a bit of luck and a lot of hard work.

Can someone please call us a 'one man team' so we might get a Kerry like performance for next year? Seriously powerful performance by Kerry that simply Donegal were not prepared for and couldn't adapt to during the game. Have we any hope of competing with that? Interesting that several of those players played under O'connor at minor and u20. We need to develop our successful underage teams for the future.

Its hard to know.
2 years ago under different rules and management, we had the players to compete.
The game has changed, we will have most of those same players available and should hopefully filter through some of that underage talent.
We should at least be competitive in Ulster - then who knows.

toby47

I was at the final yesterday. I was sitting 15mins before throw in, reading the programme, looking through both teams and substitutes thinking to myself 'we are so far away from both these panels'

The depth at the minute is an issue for us. Forget management, backroom teams and everything else. I don't think we have a panel to compete with the top 3 or 4 at the moment.

We talk about injures, we had Lynch, McCloskey, McKinless injured most of the year. And Lynch wasn't even starting for a lot of the season anyway. Kerry had Diarmuid O'Connor, Paul Geaney, Sean O Shea, Paudie Clifford, Tony Brosnan,Tom O'Sullivan missing for a lot of the season and were able to bring guys in & still have an impact from the bench.

A list of players on the bench yesterday.
Killian Spillane, Tadhg Morley, Paul Geaney, Michael Burns, Tony Brosnan, Diarmuid O'Connor, Conor Geaney, Dara Moynihan, Jamie Brennan, Jason McGee, Paddy McBrearty, Niall O'Donnell, Stephen McMenamin, Odhran McFadden Ferry.  We don't have talent like that on the bench. Armagh regularly have Conor Turbitt, Forkerm Mackin, Cian McConville, Greg McCabe, Jarly Og etc on the bench.

Our bench Vs Armagh in this years group game -
Louis Regan, Ryan Mulholland, Dan Higgins, Kevin Quinn, Anton Tohill, Tommy Rogers, Ben McCarron, Charlie Diamond, Cahir McMonagle, Caolan Devlin, Danny McDermott. Not a personal dig at anyone, but it's a serious drop off vs the teams above us.
For me, not 1 player named on our bench there would have made Kerry or Donegal's bench yesterday.

We have a first 15 that can compete with anyone if coached well. These last two Championships have been so poor. But guys like McCluskey, McEvoy, McGrogan, Glass, Rogers, McFaul, E. Doherty, McGuigan and when fit Murray- all top players in the country for their positions.

Definitely will be competitive next year in Ulster. Well, draw dependent. In the All island series under Meenagh we should be far more at ourselves.

That's been well known for a couple years but we can only build a panel. We had Clucky and Murray on the bench for our last championship game this year too. And that Donegal bench has a lot of players who were good 4/5 years ago, bar maybe McGee none of them are helping them push on to improve for me, whereas Forbes/Rogers etc could become starters for us in the near future. Just two teams at different stages.
We have good enough players to give Ulster a good rattle and see from there, probably need a year or two for u20 players to filter through.
