It is clear from the Joe Mcdonagh Cup that Laois are way ahead of the other teams including Down and Kildare who as it stands currently will be a division higher than Laois in 2026, it wont be good for laois hurling or for hurling in other counties in division 2 league to have laois in it next year Laois should make a proposal to prevent them from being relegated as it stands currently Laois could be playing in the division 2 league(3rd tier) and the Leinster championship next year.

Agreed on the difference in the standard . At present Laois should really be winning that comfortably compared to the year they did win and facing possibilities of Dublin or Galway
What Laois done to Down this year will be repeated with most teams in the League next season you'd imagine & no good whatsoever preparation for a possible Leinster Championship
The difference in the standard of the bottom 3 in Leinster & even Laois can vary also as we seen what Antrim done to us this year & how they are fairing out in Leinster

Verbal

Yes. Why not.
Worst case it comes across as self serving or arrogant. So be it.

In instances like this you have to be clever and throw buzzwords /rallying phrases at it.

The development of hurling
Keeping hurling alive
Developing counties
Bridging the gap
Another county trying to get to the top table
Etc etc

Similar to what is happening with the Skorts.
It's not that huge of an issue
BUT
When you are framing it that they are refusing to take away one of the things that make girls drop out of sport, then you are winning!

To add-
I'd try get Willie Maher on board with this.
He understands why it's important.
He can be seen to get a "win" for a developing hurling county out of this.
Win win.

Called it wrong myself also, genuinely thought Laois were ahead of the majority of Div 2 league opposition. Laois disappointing today came up short on fitness and physicality compared to Kildare.
Kildare well deserving winners and it is great to see them progress on never begrudge a fresh team up and coming. Hopefully Laois turn up next week would still fancy them to do the job v Carlow and redeem themselves v Kildare.

Verbal

Yes, we badly judged the timing of our posts here!
If Laois were to win the Joe McDonagh, it's something they should pursue

Riseagain

In hindsight I badly timed this post but we have a chance to redeem ourselves against Kildare and personally I would much rather play them in a final than Carlow.Though I still believe what I said earlier stands as down and Kildare will be in division 1b next year at the very least it shoukd be chamged that the second from bottom in 1B has a playoff against the div.2 runner up

The PRO

This has to be the worst thread I've ever seen on this board.
Is there some way to delete it?
This thing of thinking we are somehow too good for the lower tiers is exactly what's killing us.

I saw that initial post when it went up and couldn't believe my eyes. Anyone that was in Carlow a fortnight ago would have known we'd be in dire trouble yesterday. And the bookies making us 4/6 on favs was farcical!!... Against a team that beat us by 11pts a little over a month ago. There was very little respect shown to Kildare in advance of this game, neither here nor main stream media. I feel for the Laois lads but well done to Kildare, they were fit, organised and ready for a national final . We weren't.

Verbal

I don't agree that there was very little respect shown to Kildare on this forum before the game.
Practically every poster was worried about the game.

Laois win by 5, Laois win by 6, teach this crowd a lesson etc. Lads doing serious damage in big wide Croke Park..

Serious damage alright... to themselves

You are both talking shite.
Everybody forecast a tough battle. Everyone was worried.
A few added on things like "Laois by 6" after talking about how tough it was going to be.
To say people were being dismissive or showing little respect to Kildare on this forum is bullshit.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it, and eloquently put by you too... but for the people who were saying Laois by 6.. where did they feel the 17pt swing was going to come from? 17pts.

Verbal

It's great to see the satisfaction you are taking in Laois being beaten.
