Why are we even still talking about this? It was a war, terrible things happen. Wars and terrible things have happened since. I don't believe it was a 'uniquely' terrible event, terrible and all that it was. The fact is it's constantly trotted out to remind us Europeans how terrible we are, and how we must continue to be punished for it. If it had happened to any other group of people, we wouldn't still be on about it. Unfortunately, it's become the 'foundational myth' for the West, and the West hasn't benefitted form looking back at it, one iota.

Being aware, awake of long held disparities in the world is not something to be ashamed of. The hijacking of the word woke as in being awake to suggest pathetic societal attitudes is pretty disgusting. There are "super" woke initiatives that perhaps don't need to be resolved at the same time as racial and sexual discrimination. There is a hierarchy of precedents set in times gone by that does need to change as the world evolves however. I will continue to be "woke" to those, along with many decent human beings.
