I know it was yest but yesterday but am surprised that I see no mention of it here  Was unbelievable time and I always thought that Ireland was neutral, even sending a letter of condolence to germany when Hitler died.

Was glad to read a book that showed how Irish people help the french  resistance.  the book was The Irish in the Resistance  by Clodagh Finn and John Morgan.
I have more respect for a man

means what he says...

The crazy thing is how many people don't know about it or don't believe it happened

I find it difficult to sympathise considering current events in Palestine

This is not an appropriate attitude. The Holocaust stands as a uniquely evil event, and that is not diminished by other events caused by other people.

I don't care if it is appropriate or not, it is my attitude.

I agree, the Holocaust was a terrible crime.

Hereiam

The holocaust was a terrible event that showed the worst of humanity and should never be forgotten, but the recent events in the middle east will do untold damage to the reputation of the Jewish community around the world. Gaza has been a concertation camp for decades and we all know its to be a clear out of the ghetto now from this point.

Uachtarán causing a stir at this event.

The Holocaust was a brutal and horrific event in history. Rightly, lessons should be learned from it. And if they are not being learned, then why should that not be pointed out?  Appropriate timing IMO.

You can sympathize and recoil from the horror and atrocities the Jews of Europe experienced while at the same time condemning what their descendants have wrought in Palestine. It's not an either/or thing. Just like criticism of Israel is not antisemitism.

Netflix have a French series on the Einsatzgruppen, the predecessor to the industrialized slaughter of the camps. One of the most horrifying programmes I've ever seen, and that was only the preview to what developed in the aftermath of Wannsee conference. Morale was so low amongst the German forces carrying out the slaughter that Heydrich, Himmler and the rest came up with the Zyklon B system to spare their soldiers.

Not sure why people can't call out both and move on

Another view would be, are the current Zionists the type of people they are today because of what happened 80 odd years ago?

Plenty of examples throughout history were nations were oppressed by invaders and become hardline in the future

Why are we even still talking about this? It was a war, terrible things happen. Wars and terrible things have happened since. I don't believe it was a 'uniquely' terrible event, terrible and all that it was. The fact is it's constantly trotted out to remind us Europeans how terrible we are, and how we must continue to be punished for it. If it had happened to any other group of people, we wouldn't still be on about it. Unfortunately, it's become the 'foundational myth' for the West, and the West hasn't benefitted form looking back at it, one iota.

Great look for Ireland alright

Respectful and peaceful attendees dragged out of the event for having the audacity to quietly stand and turn their backs on Michael D during his speech

what did Michael D say which was so wrong?

Didn't  pay it much  attention to be honest , but it seemed to be  a wholly Jewish event

Weren't other groups  supposedly affected? Catholics, gays, disabled etc?

Have to agree with others about it all  , particularly Dagda

I guess the answer to that depends on who you ask
