And? Much like Cavan, the Kerry set up allows for senior standard clubs in their lower grades.

Austin Stacks lost Munster final in 2021 also in intermediate championship. They should win AI inter championship easily enough now.

Fossa lost the final last year by a point in their first year up from junior, I would say Fossa v 2022 Munster Champions Kerin's O'Rahillys is arguably one of the games of the weekend in terms of importance anyway. It's a quarter final after all.

Kerry's "club" championship is at the semi final stage in Senior but hard to know if that's worth watching when the county one featuring East Kerry has not started yet.

Other than that it's group stages all around - think Waterford hurling also at knockout but it's a formality so why give it air time.

It seems Clubber is where Kerry club games will be carried this year.

If East Kerry win the County Championship, the Senior Club winners go forward to Munster...and with East Kerry as strong as they are, the senior clubs see the path to representing the county.  Dingle (beaten by Castlehaven on penalties in Munster Final last year) host Kenmare in one semi-final, while Rathmore (All-Ireland intermediate champions in 2023) will have Killarney's Dr. Crokes visiting their patch on Sunday.

East Kerry's Rd 1 opponent in the County Championship is Rathmore on the weekend of 15 September, by the way.  They might be caught cold, although there is a back-door this year.  Rd 2A will be the following weekend where the 8 winners of Rd 1 will play against each other for a quarter-final spot, while the 8 losers will be drawn in Rd 2B and the losers of that will be done.  Losers of 2A will then play winners of 2B for the other 4 quarter-final places.

Three weekends in a row to get to quarter-final stage (15, 22, 29 Sept), a week off (6 Oct), the quarters and semis in consecutive weekends (13 and 20 Oct), then a week off before the final on 3 Nov.  That's the plan anyway.

What Distract will the Kerin O'Rahilly and Austin Stacks lads play with?

Dingle v Dr. Crokes in senior club final on Sept 1.

Kerins O'Rahilly's and Austin Stacks will play with the St. Brendan's amalgamation this year, along with John Mitchels, Ardfert, Churchill and St. Pat's Blennerville.  Should be too strong for South Kerry in Round 1.  A lot will depend on the levels of commitment from the two big clubs...Stacks will be looking to win the intermediate title as top priority and, if successful, might not put as much effort into the St. Brendan preparation.  Get a relatively easier draw in the Rd 2 winners group might see them in a quarterfinal where interest might quickly peak.

A few people saying the inter county panel members are really enjoying the club games without the restrictions placed on them by the county game/management.  Playing with a bit of freedom now.

Moving up to 10 senior clubs over the next 2 years, meaning no relegation from senior this year and next.  Last four in this year's intermediate are Austin Stacks, Glenbeigh/Glencar, Laune Rangers and Fossa.

They are playing the worst team in the competition so I would doubt they will be on again.

QuoteTG4 to submit bid for GAA senior championship rights

There is  doubt that Sky Sports will return to the negotiating table at this juncture, while Virgin Media are not expected to be in discussions either.

TG4 will submit a bid to purchase a GAA senior championship media rights package later this week.

The Irish language TV station has confirmed it is seeking to expand its extensive Gaelic games coverage to include the competition's blue riband events.

It currently has the largest rights tranche for the Allianz Leagues as well as several other agreements such as the All-Ireland minor and U20 championships and has a highlights show on a Monday night.

The packages made available by the GAA last month are eight provincial and All-Ireland games in both codes that are predominantly played on Saturdays and a six-game suite that comprises two All-Ireland quarter-finals, a Munster senior hurling championship game and three other championship fixtures.

RTÉ are not pursuing either per se but as partners with the GAA in GAAGO they will have interest in the pay-per-view streaming service regaining what it had been showing before the rights were put out to tender. There is also doubt that Sky Sports will return to the negotiating table at this juncture, while Virgin Media are not expected to be in discussions either.

As co-owners of GAAGO, it was within the GAA's powers to release the packages which had commenced last year and due to run until 2027. The new deals are for two years.

It had been reported that the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission advised the GAA to release the packages but both Croke Park and RTÉ insisted they had not.

TG4, who showed their first live GAA game 25 years ago next month, are said to have shown interest in televising live senior championship games when they were all made available in 2022. However, the GAA maintained that was not articulated during negotiations. They said: "It is our understanding that TG4 did not have the financial resources to make an additional bid."

Industry sources don't expect TG4 will claim both sets of rights but there is anticipation that they may be able to make a competitive offer for one of them possibly the six-game contract and GAAGO will retain the larger suite.

Last year, the GAA and RTÉ each made €2 million from their joint streaming enterprise. In total, the GAA accrued €12.845m in media coverage in 2023, down from €16.578m the previous year when Sky Sports were involved.

Broadcasters were asked for expressions of interest in the packages by August 12 and those who did have until this Monday to submit tenders. The process is expected to be completed by next month.

This Raheny v Castleknock game is pretty middling stuff, was expecting a bit more quality.

Just watching it now. What a stupid red card 5 mins in, what was Quinn thinking?

bannside

Watched it too. Amazing the amount of times you watch county stars like Fenton Howard and Kilkenny playing for their clubs and you can't see them standing out that much from the rest of the bunch.

To be fair I thought Kilkenny did but Fenton was a little more incognito.

Blowitupref

All Ireland finalists St Brigids back in January have a fight on hands to stay in the championship as Padraig Pearses lead 0-6 to 0-3 at half time.

Ben O'Carroll isn't playing for Brigids, their attack looks very average without him.
