Spurs supposedly have turned down £80m from Madrid.

Can Spurs insure the player against a career ending injury in the meantime ?

They say they'll sell him in 12 months time.

Spurs are mad turning down that money for him, IMO he is not worth anywhere near £80 million.

Why not, Utd sold Ronaldo for the same amount. Bale is 24 and can only get better. He will be gone before the transfer deadline.

It marks out Spurs as a feeder club, not that they already weren't in many ways. The ambitious thing to have done here was to pump more funding into the club as use Bale as the carrot to draw other big players and build a championship-challenging side. You can't expect players to take you seriously if you can't hold onto your best prospect in generations.

Spurs are the new Arsenal. Fourth and a puff of smoke. If they're lucky.

Ronaldo was better than Bale was when he was sold, he was coming off the back of 3 unbelievable seasons with United.  Bale had a good season last year, how likely is he to replicate it this year and the next few?

On the contrary, rejecting an offer of £80m (which the USA Franchise in Manchester didnt turn their nose up at with Ronaldo) shows Spurs are anything but a feeder club. There are few if any other clubs in the world that would reject an offer like that, even the so called global giants!

He has had more then one good season. Do you not remember his destroying Inter Milan in the CL home and away? He is a class act.

He was also PFA player of the year in 2011.

Big difference in Ronaldo going for £80 million in 2009 when he wanted to go and at the time that was a mind blowing sum.

He played well in the Inter games a few years ago but apart from that he didn't exactly set the world alight, what did he muster in total for each of those seasons goal wise?  7 or 8 goals?  He shouldn't have got Player Of The Year for 2011 either, nearly as much of a joke as it was to give it to Giggs the year before.

Ronaldo was making at best a lateral move in terms of club size and was also moving closer to home. Spurs are sending Bale the other direction. You don't build championship winning sides on quicksand, no matter how much money you pocket from a transfer.

Ronaldo was playing with better players, and was in the Champions League every season unlike Spurs.
11 goals in 2011,12 in 2012 and 26 in 2013. Don't forget he was playing left back when he started with Spurs and was only adjusting to left wing.

Should a left winger be scoring 30 goals every season?

Its not only about goals but the currency which both Bale and Ronaldo are really judged on is the number of goals and assists they are responsible for.  Bale had a good season last year and would be doing very well to replicate it this coming season.  Ronaldo consistently produced the goods over 3 seasons for United and his return was from a very similar area of the pitch to which Bale occupies.  Spurs have hardly been cannon fodder the past few years either, he has been in a good team which creates a lot of chances.

Ronaldo was probably allowed more freedom to attack. He had Evra backing him up - and Ronaldo was never a great player to track back. Bale is more solid player having spent his early days as a left back.

And it would be a big surprise if Bale didn't kick on from the 2012/13 season with Spurs in La Liga.

Ridiculous statement, no-one is worth £80mill but Bale is top class and has terrorised defenses for the past few years.
