Maybe but it was an awful game of football played in a soulless atmosphere. O'Moore Park or Navan would have been much better venues.

Kildare will be lucky to get within 5 of Dublin.

Anyway some good individual performances from Kildare, Niall Kelly after he settled, Flats Jnr, Cribben, JD and Leper came into in the 2nd half and I think the 2 Flynns have the making of a good midfield partnership. O'Connor, Lyons and Foley had  games they'd rather forget.  Team performance was disjointed and lacked intensity.

Will go into the Dublin game more in hope than expectation, and am hoping that we kept things in reserve and hoping that we sacrificed peaking for this game so as to be in prime condition in 4 weeks.

Hopefully next year all quarter-finals will be played at provincial venues. A little over a 1/3 full stadium does nothing for the game. Sometimes the game has to come before money.

Well done to Kildare on the win.  But a bigger well done to our lads on raising their performance from D4 level to give a decent challenge to the D1 side.  I'm a proud Offaly man tonight.  We don't always expect to win (we do always hope to win), but we do always expect our team to play their best and I think we got that from most of them tonight.

Regarding the Offaly goalkeepers, the main man Alan Mulhall doesn't usually play in goals for his club (Walsh Island) and that's why the regular club keeper is the sub for the county team.  Some super saves by Mulhall tonight, as good as any by the other star keepers that get all the attention in the national press (Cluxton, Morgan, Clarke).  And Niall McNamee can kick some scores that others only dream about (and The Sunday Game probably wont bother showing).

That's a fair assessment. The game went largely as predicted and followed the same pattern as Kildare's league campaign. The younger players like Kelly, Flynn and Cribbin showed very well. However, the defending was very loose. Hopefully it was just an element of complacency that crept into the performance. I don't think Kildare were ever in danger of losing and we always seemed to be able to pick off a few points when we needed them. If the game was blown up with five minutes to go I think most of the Kildare supporters would have been fairly satisfied with the result.

Positives:
- Half forward line had a very good day. 4 points each from play. O'Flaherty looked back to his best and Niall Kelly was my man of the match.
- The two Flynns won plenty of ball at midfield. They have the makings of a decent pairing and compliment each other well.
- Johnny Doyle is going to be much more of a scoring threat this year playing closer to goal.
- Expectations will be quelled even further ahead of the next match. I don't expect this team to beat Dublin but there will be little pressure on them in 4 weeks time.

Negatives:
- Some poor individual performances from a few players who you can normally rely on. Foley struggled on McNamee but he was left very exposed by his colleagues. Ollie Lyons and Emmet Bolton also looked a bit off the pace in the backs.
- Donnellan was quite nervous in goals and does not seem to give the same confidence to the defence that Connolly does.
- Tom Connor still does not offer the scoring threat that Kildare need. Brophy too won most of his ball with his back to goal. I think Alan Smith must start against Dublin because Johnston was very poor when he came on.
- We conceded some really unnecessary frees due to rash tackling. We need to be more disciplined to have any hope.
