I hope a big Mayo crowd travel. We need it. Despite the problems both teams have encountered a win here will really put the show back on the road. Our problems at the back are too major to overcome this late in the  year so we will always be ripe for a pasting. Fair enough we are poor under a high ball but there is no serious do or die work ethic from our backs. Do they want it badly enough? You don't need to be a great classy footballer to be a good back. Toughness, hard-work and stickiness will get you a long way.

I believe Paddy Crozier is married to a Mayo woman as well so hopefully she will pass on a few tips during the week.

By the way did anyone see St Patrick on Saturday. We'll need him this weekend.

I dont know if Mayo will ever be ripe for a pasting,we have not had a decent full back for a good few years and our scores against have never been that bad, our forward division is turning into one of the best in the country so with that working well we will always be odds on to out score the opposition. St. Patrick didnt seem to be around Last Saturday,maybe he was on the reek praying for the right result! As someone said earlier i am also loking forward to a night out in Derry,its a cracking town and the belles love the southern lads up there....Although my missus is not too happy i am going as i have some history still living up there.... but i will suffer the aggro to see our lads in action!

I think its amazing that about five 15 years on Bebo has come up with a Myth that Mayo are somehow hard-core nutjobs. Mayo has to have the mellowest fans, players & population in the country. Jaz the nearest thing Mayo ever got to a ruck was 1996, the one that got away.

Both against Kerry and i dont think our back lines were the direct cause of those pasting, everyone involved has to take a share of the blame for those hammerings. Generally in the past few years we have done well against teams from the North.

Bad news from the mayo camp
St Patrick has been defrocked . he was a couple of rows infront of me at the cavan game in civillian gear. I think iit could have bee a contractual dioute between Nike and the Mill bar  over what gear he would wear.

barney sare you trolling for a fight again dening the work ethic  of the may backs sure some of their technique may be questioned but over all they arre a very tenacious bunch who never give up and none more so in this regard that you arch nemises P gardiner. Small guys like them have to put in that extra effort or they would just be swallowed up and i will repeat they only let in 10 scores to cavan not exactly a disastours performance even if cavan forgot about scoring points for the last 10 minutes or so.
Which player apart from gardiner and g brady do you think is not overly interested?

You'll be hoping pretty dang hard for that one Barney. Martin Carney was talking to Matt Cooper on The Last Word last night - Carney was at the Derry v Armagh game in Clones and he reckoned that Derry stood up to and eventually overcame Armagh in the physically intense stakes. Derry beat Armagh at their own game, in other words. Looks like a 2-5 to 0-9 to me. In the Oakleaf's favour I'm afraid.

I would not describe Gardiner as my arch nemesis. i think his tackling is too weak for him to be on the team, and that a general change is needed from attacking half-backs to a more stable back-line. There is no co-ordination to the defending. It is very much man for man. The support from Brady in midfield and some of the forwards on Saturday was very much lacking. We have to stop deluding ourselves. Some of our defensive play this year is as bad as it gets. The evidence is there - 5 goals in 2 games. The ease with which Donegal scored in the league final. Terrible starts to Dublin, Cork and Galway in the league. If we don't face up to reality the big day will never arrive.

Mayo on paper should be too strong but I fancy Derry here - they beat a very good Armagh side albeit they find it difficult to score ( Armagh that is ) - so Derry have the potential to go far.

i think that we will have to play a lot lot better then we did on saturday,we have to remember that with 15 minutes gone in the 2nd half cavan were 1 point up in a match that felt more like a training session than a championship match. Derry will have far more options available to them than cavan who in fairness caused us all sorts of problems in midfield and the full back line by just pumping high ball in to the square.Hanley is not going to get the room that he got on staurday when he is going to be marked by the great sean Marty who won't give an inch, some of the marking by cavan in the final 15 minutes of the game was dismal how many times did a mayo player get a ball and no cavan player within 10 yards of him .Its going to be a different story this saturday derry are a proud footballing county and it ain't going to be easy in Celtic park.
