Maybe he should take a leaf from the book of the many other Kerry legends such as Gooch Cooper who could carry greatness with coolness and civility. They let their craft and skill do the talking.

Should he not celebrate? Especially after being booed for large parts of the game yesterday?

Reading twitter comments on the Dublin county board notification  no respect for a man that has dedicated the greater part of his life to the Dublin cause. Idiots.

Dessie was a selfless servant of Dublin football, and all genuine supporters know that.
The following fine article was written last night by John Fogarty in the Irish Examiner.

An emotional Dessie Farrell paid tribute to players who he said felt like his children after taking the decision to step down as Dublin senior football manager after six seasons.

Farrell revealed to the media following Saturday's All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tyrone that he had made his decision at the outset of the year. He informed the county board at that stage and his squad after the game.
"I think it's just come to a natural end," said the two-time All-Ireland SFC winning manager. "It's easier to say it today than I have to say it next week or in a couple of week's time.

"I definitely don't want to make it about me because it's always and always has been about the players. Ultimately, they're the men who step into the arena. They're the men in the formative years of their lives who dedicate so much to playing for their county.

"I have huge admiration and respect for them. I think the overriding feeling for me now is that I will miss the people. It's not necessarily the position because some of the relationships are really important to me. Some of those lads have been like kids to me, watching them grow up.

"They're a special group and I'm very, very grateful for them and for all they've given. They'll drive on and Dublin will be a good place next season and the season after."

Farrell described his time in charge as a pleasure. "I've had a great innings. I think between being a player for Dublin underage and senior player and then as an underage coach and senior coach, manager, whatever you want to call it.

"I've got the guts of 40 years. It's a long time and it's been a privilege every year, every step of the journey. I've met some great people. I've had a ringside seat for some of the best players that ever performed in the arena out there."

The Na Fianna man felt the management had to stay intact to ensure some continuity after the likes of James McCarthy, Jack McCaffrey and Paul Mannion stepped aside from the playing group.

"I think with all the retirements from last season and if the management team had stepped away as well, it didn't feel like the right thing to do. I think everyone involved, management, coaches, backroom and players knew that this was going to be a different season. We just embraced that challenge and see where it took us. It was a very fulfilling and rewarding season.

"Some of the senior guys in that dressing room to a man stood up and picked up the cudgel and just went with it. The young lads that came in, the development we've seen taking place in them in six, nine months has been significant.

"I know there's challenges with underage in the county at the minute or over the last number of years, but there's a great crop after coming in there and I'd be very optimistic for how they go about their business in the seasons ahead."

Farrell's parting words to his players in the losing dressing room was to take heart from the defeat and the season.

"I said that to the lads in the dressing room today. While everyone's bitterly disappointed, sometimes failure is greatness waiting to happen. This could be a big platform for that group going forward. A lot of lessons in this season for players and for the group, and I think they'll be better for it and well set up to attack a new season in 2026."

Fair play Galway. Great win yesterday, well deserved. No excuses from the Dublin side. The better team won. It was a memorable day for the Galway team and their loyal supporters. Best of luck in your remaining journey through the championship.

What did the Roscommon player get a black card for? It looked like he was pulled down by the Dublin player

Was coming together of two players I don't think it was even yellow card offence never mind a black card. Not the first time that ref Derek O'Mahoney has handed out odd black card.

From the Hill it was clear that after the ball was played the Roscommon player extended his arm across the Dublin player's chest to prevent him following the play. They then tangled and ended up on the ground. It was a clear black card.

If a small county like Louth can run the Dubs as close then Meath and Kildare should be able to do the same.

Dublin needs to be split into as many counties needed to get the leinster championship competitive again

How many counties would you need to create from Mayo, Galway and Roscommon to give Leitrim and Sligo a shout at winning a Connacht title?

Make Dublin a Province with 4 County Boards and 4 County teams.

Make Connacht a County with one team.

There will be a move to fix Dublin at some stage.  Maybe more teams instead of 1.

If the GAA were to split Dublin they would be abandoning the "county team" model for national competitions. What would replace that model?

There is a lot of back and forth re Dublin who I think we should all admit would dominate any province. They are dominating the All-Ireland long enough so it's fair to say their depth would manage Ulster too.

But, that doesn't excuse Kildare and Meath especially. They should be up and around Div 1 or solid Div 2. I know lads are saying when we are waiting to be hammered in Leinster it breeds a bad vibe, but the league is something different and Kildare were annihilated by Cork and Derry last year. That is not excuseable.

There will be a reset and some fresh blood on the pitch and on the line next year, but the Dubs are going nowhere!

It does create a bad vibe. And you can't just switch that on or off for league football.

When people argued that Dublin benefitted from financial advantages 5 years back we were told that it was a once in a life time team. That we should laud them while they are here. How does that argument stack up now?

What is your solution to the Dublin "problem"? Not "the final solution" I hope!

Through my experience, I've learned the hard way that semi-finals throw up surprises. We learnt that in 2014 playing Donegal when we were favourites going in and we sucker-punched.

Dublin were caught twice by Donegal. 1992 was a big shock (for Dublin at least).

Dublin would need to be naive in the extreme to go to Croke Park tomorrow and not expect an almighty ambush. Hopefully they won't be so naive.

Dublin hand Mayo a cruel hammering while Monaghan scrape through against Armagh - the scene is set for an historic ambush. I hope not, but I'm just saying.

Impossible to call.

Mayo have been looking the part for most of the year. Have they flattered to deceive? Sunday will tell the tale.

On the other hand Dublin have performed in fits and starts. What will they be like on Sunday - that's the big question.
