For novelty I'd love to see the following system in place (obviously I know it will never pass in reality as a proposal).

8 senior teams play off with a first round do or die game (open draw as to who faces who). 4 teams progress to the next round with an open draw again. The two winning teams from these encounters proceed to play one another with the winner progressing to the final. The two losing teams then play off in a quarter final with the winner of that game facing the losing team of the two winning teams encounter in the semi-final.

The losing 8 teams play off in a senior B style competition as currently in use in the football championship.

What I like about this proposal is that it takes away the safety nets and the dead rubbers that the group games are currently throwing up. It also brings back cut-throat first round encounters that should add intensity and excitement to the championship.

Plus what's the point of playing a quarter final, followed by another game when the finalists are already decided....

I went back and read this again to try understand it.... awful.
A team could potentially lose a semi final twice in the same competition.

You know, if even half of the above posts are to be believed (about who's committing or not) then I'm going to ask the question... should we honestly consider withdrawing our Senior football team from the championship/league. And before anyone jumps down my neck.. I think A) it'd for once and for all expose the complete apathy that exists in the county at the minute, B) it'd give the county a clean start to channel a lot or all of the available funding into where its clearly needed, underage C) it'd make the GAA sit up and realise how f*cked the whole model is now.. the imbalance between the haves and have nots, the population disparity, the funding disparity, and so on. I honestly believe at some point in the next couple of years some county is going to take this drastic measure. Now, away ye go..let fly 

Absolutely, I can't think  of a better way to close the gap to the top counties than just not playing 

I feel it will be a Cbolla v Rdowney /Errill final. I hear camross were hurling in Tipp last weekend and played Kk in offaly yesterday. Rdowney /Errill going well in challenge games aswell. Both games should be close the weekend.

Out of interest where will Emo be playing their home championship matches this summer? Pitch will be out operation for a while after the 3 day music festival in the rain on it at the weekend.

Since when are there home championship matches in the SFC?

Schools are also vital, when laois were winning minor titles, the likes of Knockbeg, Portlaoise and Ballyfin were having lots of success with their school teams.

The most sensible comment I've seen on this site in a while.
All this talk of S&C for 12 or 13 Yr olds is a load of nonsense.
Kids that young don't need any of that sort of sh!t, they need to enjoy the game first and foremost. Trying to turn them semi pro before they have hair on their balls will turn them off the game.

Laois has 40 odd clubs, you're not goin to get great coaches into all those clubs. Get them into 5 or 6 schools instead.
