Downeys are back anyway, hard to justify but I'm still hoping to be proved wrong.
Jack Doherty is great to see and Sean Kearney on the bench.

And the best of all Mc Kinless at 6. Hard work to get back to there. Hopefully he has a good year.

There is absolutley no basis for the selection of the Downeys. Shea was lucky to be involved when he was first in the panel. He didn't stand out at all. What have either done since. A kick in the teeth to those dropped or others who are actually playing in Derry who were not called in.

You might be better sitting this one out with your track record on who is and isn't good enough to play for Derry. As evidence I present this classic. I rest my case.

Bit of a joke McKinless back. A man who has shown next to no commitment when he's been in squads the last few times he's be invloved. Disruptive influence - Won't be long before he falls out with Gallagher.

Must be a busy man. We'll see over the next few weeks if they offer anything.

How difficult is it for officials to control the number of balls on field?

Every time a ball is kicked into the terrace, the keeper picks up another one to attempt a quick restart.

How you'd expect the officials to control when and where that ball is returned, I'm not sure.

Ball catchers would prevent 90% of that. Don't know why they aren't in place in Omagh. Definitely hampered their own County champions in this case. They were looking to get the ball away quick most of the time but couldn't.

So, you think Meenagh won't be picking the strongest possible panel available to him? Strange strange take considering they haven't had a collective training session yet. Why would he or any other manager with set targets do this?

The squad apart those still playing are back in the gym at least 2 weeks. How do 2 fellas that have done nothing in Antrim and very little when they were there add to the panel ? Sure we can wait to see when the full squad is listed to see who is there. Not usually done by Derry but maybe this year.

Hardly surprising referees and players can't make the reserve games mid week. Those scheduling must think people don't work. If you had to travel any distance you'd have to take time off.

Two dropped out of the planel already. Declan Cassidy and Mark Doherty. Not good when it's a time to pull together as a squad.

One thing he def not is a man marker, city man or not, am only now starting to appreciate how good Chrissy was at this.

Really? Chrissy was the best man marker in the game. An unbelievable man on man marker. Baker is a decent defender. The worst corner back seen in a Derry jersey. I mean that's just a ridiculous statement.

Mc Nicholl decision making is absolutely shocking, he can't see the kick out quick enough nevermind be able to implement it. Numerous opportunities to get short direct quick ball to Ethan and Ciaran on particular and he delayed too long until Donegal had it covered. For a member of backroom team to have to go and give him a hat to keep the sun out of his eyes 20mins into 1st half shows the level of goalkeeper preparation he's doing. Sick of hearing, he's not a keeper its not his fault.

Baker 1v1 is a poor of corner back as I've seen in Derry jersey niggling, pulling and dragging then when matters he's caught to far off then can't his feet sorted to actually track a man.

You would love to know what the thinking was taking off Niall Toner for Cahir Mc Monagle right when he was about to take a free. Also he was one of our only hopes in picking up breaking ball around the middle?
Paul Cassidy looks like the player we always though he was a club level, Scoring seems to be least of his worries, actually getting himself wound up long enough to get a shot away is the first hurdle.

And just for another point, Donegal were there for the taking today, we missed about 2-3 in first half and at least 6-8 points in 2nd half.

You really seem to have an issue with City players. What's wrong, no Ben McCarron to ridicule this week so it's Baker now instead. He is a decent defender but not top class. Far from hopeless as you make out though.

Ah get away out of that. It's a discussion forum. The one thing that will impact commitment of lads is seeing people involved who are not there on merit. As someone said is there no opportunity for lads from Intermediate or Junior clubs to get a chance. People are talking about players who don't even play in Derry ! That's a real kick in the teeth for anyone who thinks there is a chance of selection.

Rory Gallagher to manage Slaughtneil?

Surely not, a club who have invested serious development into their camogie teams, who have promoted the values of club, family & community in every interview they ever did about their club. Naw surely not

Hard to see it as a good move for any club but then again Brendan Rodgers was singing his praises this week. Disappointing from Brendan especially with a new management team just in place. Hopefully they call for a McGuiness type shutdown with chatting with the media.Derry could do with a lot less chat and making the wrong type of headlines. It's bad enough stuff being leaked to O'Kane to stir things and Brolly having his say every few weeks.

First post as a long term supporter, i was drew here to see what the thoughts are on the situation the county finds itself in. The long drawn out process can only be described as farcical at this point.

We know the board reached out to the clubs (suspiciously didn't ask the clubs after Ciaran Meenagh stepped away) with the conclusion being that Gallagher was the choice of clubs along with the leadership group of players. When news of this filtered out the press jumped on it and that's when we seem to have hit the rocks it started with Gary Coleman's article in the IN, Belfast Telegraph asking women's rights groups for their opinion, Armagh fans on social media saying they will never watch or support Derry again when on tv, social media users who have no vested interest in our county or sport in general offering their 'educated' opinion on family law and legal matters. And so the board/sponsors/club Derry seems to have came to a disagreement about rehiring Gallagher, and Keenan then broke rank and made a statement to the media that Gallagher is out of the running this was apparently done without the consent of Barker.

Dating back to before Harte was appointed Keenan had said we will be only looking for experienced inter-county managers at a high level, this was also stated by players - Glass on the podcast with Niblock. Rogers and Chrissy also stated around this time what players want a name that jumps off the page and makes you sit up and take notice. The board seem to have tried with talks of Horan, O'Rourke even Jim Gavin was mention last September before the shock news that Harte got the gig.

Roll on 12 months we are no further forward, rightly or wrongly the board had the chance to fully distance themselves from Rory over a year ago and didn't do it and then again after Harte and Horse walked and didn't do it until as i said above Keenan's one sentence statement after media got wiff of a Gallagher return. We were and are playing catch up ever since. Rory's shadow hangs long over us and that has to sit with the board they either had to stick or twist with Rory and yet they didn't really want to do one or the other. By not being decisive with Gallagher we have found ourselves now being linked to rookie coaches with no experience whatsoever of Intercounty management all what Keenan said originally back last September we wouldn't do, the players want a name that stops you in your tracks and jumps off the back pages yet now we just get linked with rookies... Irish News had Doran in the hot seat and said we should be lucky as we were nothing but a D3 team. Now Johnny McBride, Paul McFlynn, Barry Dillon, Paddy Bradley, Paul McIvor, Ronan Devlin all get the Irish News rumours treatment.

The only think we really know is the management saga needs to draw to a close soon, with around 4 weeks until inter-county training can officially resume. The direction and ambition we have for the team will be for all to see with who ever takes the reigns.

Armagh fans and Gary Coleman are not the reason Gallagher didn't get the nod again. Many within Derry including a number of clubs were opposed to him coming back. Some players need to have a long hard look at themselves. Undermining anyone else who has been mentioned for the job by still showing their preference for that man.

Marty Morrissey sounded totally fed up and you couldn't blame him. At least it didn't go to extra time. Might have been the first time RTE might have just said we'll just knock it on the head and not show extra time. How in good God can anyone think that stuff is good to watch or play in.

Those in positions of power in Derry have made an absolute balls of the selection of a new manager. The recent  Cahair O'Kane article covers it. Making Malachy O'Rourke their second choice twice was a really wise move by them. You can only disrespect someone so many times. It was clear from the Ulster minor final v Armagh when the people involved in making these decisions had Gallagher and his family ushered in to sit beside them who they wanted. Now everyone they approach knows that they are at least 5 or 6th choice after the rest have turned them down. Far too much player involvement in the decaion process all along as well.

O'Rourke NEVER wanted the Derry job, it was never going to happen. He had been asked 5 times previously, had no interested, none, nada. And how precious do you think men are that they wouldn't take a plum job as they weren't first choice, not exactly the kind of shrinking violet you'd want in charge is it?

I'll take a journalists word on it and his sources rather than some fella on a forum. Only the 5 times ? So you think a man with his CV and standing would be alright with being second choice to a character like Gallagher. So you think they are doing a great job with the selection ?
