ARE Tyrone the best team in the country?

No is the answer.

This raises a far more important question:

Which is correct: IS Tyrone the best team? OR ARE Tyrone the best team?

The issue is whether the word team is plural or singular. DuffleKing is putting his money on 'Team' being plural while red n' black obviously believes Team is singular.

Can you say: 'that is a great team' if team is plural? I don't think so. Also if team is plural, then what is the singular of the word 'teams'?

I am putting my money on team being singular, although I was always crap at English.

Thanks for the English lesson,

Are Tyrone the best team in the country at present? I would have to say yes. although they have been in div 2, they have went through their opposition like a whirlwind, defeating teams better than their current division. The big 3 in div 1 have stuttered their way through with some very questionable form going into the championship. Some people say the national cannot be taken as a given, but it is the only yard stick we have! At present i think Tyrone are the team that would beat any 15 at the min1 I hope they don;t get tanked on sun after putting me neck on the line!!!!!!!

GAA Discussion / Re: Ard Macha v An Dun 24/03/12

I knew from the first few minutes that Down could be in trouble, the gaping space between the mid and half forward line was are undoing. Too many high balls were coming into Lavery who is a small but very skillful player each getting mopped up and starting a counter attack. Armagh were very hungry and only for Ambrose in the midfield we would have got nought in terms of breaking ball. There was still a lot of positives

1) Danny Hughes & Dan Gordon WORLD CLASS
2) Aidan Carrs free taking
3) Burgers
4) The referee was consistent... (in armaghs favour)

All in all it was a derby match played with passion and intensity and to that end cannot be a serious marker as to position either of the two sides, a good game all the same.

GAA Discussion / Re: Down are far from a disgrace.

In response to red and black are back, I am well aware of the amount of finance and time it takes supporting Down. However my original post was not to discredit any supporter from putting forward a just argument on the positives and negatives which is what following a team is all about.

The point I was trying to make was that a so called supporter landed them a disgrace with most of the telephone message unprintable for a daily newspaper. Others gave no just argument only to let off steam. It caused me to register and post on here I was that pived off!  I think not just in Down but in all county's that these amateur players come in for far too much abuse from people hiding behind desks, phones and terraces.

Defeat is part and parcel of sport and to be beaten away to Cork(Prob the best team in the land) is no disgrace. One swallow doesn't make a summer and one defeat doesn't turn to a crisis.
On a brighter note we'll get enough points at Pairc Eslier to stay up. 8)

GAA Discussion / Down are far from a disgrace.

In todays Irish news, Off the fence carried articles on readers opinons of how Down have fallen from grace. This was a total over reaction and one reader even labelled them a disgrace! The lads who give up their free time for training, matches, pr events etc.. certainly don't need to be lifting the paper to read this. Instead they should be commended for the fine work they do on and off the field promoting the GAA to young and old. Down have come from Div3 in 3 years, reached an all ireland final and were only undone by the smallest of margins. Along the way they have lifted supporters, gave a huge lift to the county, and got people coming out to support their county again. Some peoples expectations are now to a point that a defeat away to Cork is a castrophe!!... Come on lads lets get behind the county this year. We have alot to look forward too, I for one believe we will stay comfortably  in Div 1 and reach an Ulster final.....
