Coney back .. Hope he gets some luck and stays injury free this year

Strange enough selection, some guys who were average last week still in and other lads who need a chance still out. Whilst appreciating that not everyone can play I have to ask - why is McAliskey not on the 15, admittedly only back from injury but has shown enough over the last 2 years to suggest that he can do it. I think MH should persist with him, McCurry and Ronie O Neill on the team and fill in the other places after that - these 3 are proven score getters and that is what we are lacking. In the new rules, the target has to be aggregate of 17+ per game so scorers are needed. the 3 of them need to get used to playing together and getting an awareness of each others style of play in terms of runs, passes etc.
Our HFL will need to be fit to work up and down due to the Mayo style of attacking half backs and these 3 can do it but it will be a tough ask especially for Petie Hughes as Lee Keegan is a top number 5.
Believe Niall McKenna has fell victim to the concussion rule as he didn't even feature for Queens in Sigerson, McNeice is on the bench, McNabb is on the bench, McBride on bench...so that is all the changes.
Hope for a good open game and Tyrone to win by a whisker - tough run coming up so a win is vital !!!

Owen is worse than Ray Wilkins which is saying something.

I heard something recently about him not being allowed to commentate on man united games.

Owen is useless at the commentating and I acknowledge that this maybe biased due to him playing for manure but he is too monotone and appears lifeless in the studio - no excitement from him and dull comments all over the place. Ray Wilkins is 'one of the boys', loved by Radio and TV people as he can get them excess to Chelsea players and United players - he is too straight for me in his opinions, never says anything controversial - every player is great, a great lad, great touch, etc.....Actually was getting a bit fed up hearing his voice on SKY, Talksport etc but that will cease now that he joined the Fulham set up.

I think Davie Provan and Don Goodman are good co-commentators - they offer some insight, don't shirk a comment and let the commentator do his job as well which is important.

Reports from Ukraine that Liverpool have agreed 18m euros fee for Konoplyanka. Are also said to have offered a 4.5 year deal.
Reports say deal now hinges on the successful conclusion of talks tomorrow.

looks like this deal could be happening.
expect to see him at spurs on friday

LOL ! but unfortunately you maybe right but it appears not this time (hopefully). Don't think the Spuds have 15M clear to spend at the minute unless they off load some players. Think that Song from Barca on loan for 6 mths or De Jong from AC could be feasible but the 3 man set up last night worked a treat in the middle of the park but we always need cover.

Can't fathom why he didn't take of LS or Stevie G last night to rest them a little - in games like that when the result is done, we should never take any risks - hamstring or tear of a muscle would practically end your season if happened now.....I know we cant take everyone off but no need to take off Coutinho - he was flying and staying on he possibly could have scored which would have done him the world of good.

Fair play if they sign Yevhen Konoplyanka, but they missed out on Henrikh Mkhitaryan during the summer and Everton's Diniyar Bilyaletdinov shows it can be hard to settle on Merseyside.

You also forgot the 'legend' Andreiy Voronin !!!!

However, whilst the NW of England is hard place to settle it is made easier, much easier if your team is in contention for honours - East Europeans can adapt anywhere - Vidic settle in Manc 20 mins away / Kolorav at City / Nastasic at City....
You are correct in that some parts of the UK can be a hard place to settle but IMO anywhere is easy to settle if the workplace / team are doing well and successful which is where I hope the 'pool will soon be......

Great performance by Liverpool. Couthino and Sterling were excellent, really closed Everton down and made it difficult for them. Couthino was back to his best passing wise as well, the first Sturridge goal was inch perfect through ball.

Interesting to see Sturridge's reaction in the interview, apologising for his reaction to being subsituted. Shows BR is running a tight ship!

Needed that win, with United winning tonight and likely to string a run together at some point. And as much as I want to see Everton plummet down the table, hope Lukaku is not too badly injured. Great player and if he was still at Stamford Bridge I think it would be a very different picture at the top of the League.

Great performance and we could have scored a few more, Sterling missed a sitter, obviously Sturridge peno and the later chance but overall very satisfied. As is the norm for all 'pool supporters - we were a little anxious yesterday in the lead up to the game and more anxious when we see their team sheet and it includes Barry / Lukaku who were reportedly injured. Impressed with Coutinho and Flannagan and Sterling - not often Baines is on the back foot for 90 mins !!!
On the Sturridge incident, I was disappointed with Suarez reaction as DS was going for a hat-trick and IMO was entitled to go for goal especially after missing a pen. Suarez is guilty of greediness at times both in & out of the box and even recently in the Stoke game he blatantly shot when DS was in 6 yard box waiting for a tap in but DS didn't complain - he accepted this is what strikers do - all of them have a selfish streak which makes them the player they are. Glad to see that the incident has been cleared and explained on TV last night by Stevie G, DS and Rodgers - it wasn't allowed to fester which is a sign of a strong unified changing room.
Hope for a possible big name addition before Friday but hope it is not a let down whereby we sign some unknown young Hispanic player who is going to be 'the next big thing' and turns out to be useless. Go for broke and sign someone with quality who will invigorate and inspire the rest of the squad for the big run in - Sneijder would be great but only dreaming....

M'villa and Sakho are close friends apparently.  Maybe the money simply isn't there to  push on.  The owners are frugal heads and without CL football at the minute it is more difficult to draw the better players.  Still a few days left, but not hopeful :(

Could well be no funds there and the Salah pursuit was a smokescreen and they where delighted that Chelsea came in.
Just seems no rhyme or reason to it, or rather does Rodgers get a say at all.

Its not even a case of attracting the CL players, I can see thats not going to be the case but its a lack of intent to buy anyone. Still, its not Friday yet, some window of opportunity.

I appreciate there are a few days left of the window but this is not the way BR worked min the past. Sturridge and Coutinho were bought reasonably early on in Jan and had fitted in quite easily whereas any player bought now will need some time to adjust and it could be too late...any player should have been bought a few weeks ago and allowed time to integrate before this busy schedule coming up in PL. Sahko, Moses and Ilori were bought late in August window and had no time to adapt or adjust and were thrown straight in as PL was ongoing and look what has happened with the 3 of them........ There were 2 FA cup games in Jan and this would have allowed a new man a chance to play and adapt - from here on in it is pressure games all the way through with a few tough ones to start with - Everton, Arsenal x 2, Southampton in next few weeks.
As I said previously, I don't think the Yanks want it badly enough and don't appear to be prepared to take a risk and it is not even a big risk as any shortfall from failure to finish top 4 can be offset by selling LS, although that is worst case scenario. Unless we take a risk, how are we going to progress- WE MUST SIGN SOME PLAYERS - although that no looks extremely doubtful but as always hope I am wrong but I doubt it..........

Early season promise is dissapearing fast. If we lose to Everton, we are fecked. End of story. The way they are conducting business is ridiculous. Of the top 7 or 8 teams, our squad is by far the thinnest. Buying players (Llori, Alberto ) and saying they are " for the future", is BS. We need to be winning NOW. All of a sudden , we are waiting on John Flanagan coming back to steady the ship. Right now , the way the things going , we will be lucky to finish 8th. What signal is this sending to the likes of Suarez? He knows the squad needs additions, yet watching again, as all and sundry upgrade in the pursuit of victory.
Pissed off:( >:(

I agree to a certain degree but wouldn't be as downbeat at you sound. Correct about the purchases in Jan being critical for the short term future. What I can't understand is the reluctance to take the risk even when you have a 80M safety bet there waiting in the shape of LS. Spend 50M now in pursuit of CL and if we get there then you get 40M, if not sell LS and you still in profit to the tube of 30M !!!
I now believe the Yanks don't want it badly enough and think BR may jump ship if it all falls pear shaped this season. Surely they can see that in order to get CL you MUST strengthen existing team (not squad) with some quality and go for the jugular. Anything else from this position will be seen as an abject failure especially if Manure beat us to 4th !!!

Has anyone the link that had the rough copy of club fixtures this season including championship

Lol. You should be so lucky!

Irish news the week before the ACL starts is normally reliable - any info you receive before this is not reliable !!!!

Absolute nightmare for players, coaches etc etc with regard to planning. Do the CCC not realise this - local amateur soccer/rugby/basketball/darts/snooker can tell you their schedule weeks in advance.....

I like Brendan Rodgers thinking as regards youth team progression, long term player development, loan moves etc

However he has to take complete responsibility for allowing Suso, Wisdom & Borini leave on loan whilst at the same time splashing circa £17,000,000 on Alberto, Aspas, & Illori. That's a real double whammy. Spunking that amount of money on players who simply are not as good as those you have allowed to leave on loan.
You could also include Reina / Mignolet in that equation as well.

I said this a few weeks ago & got shot down by BCB and the likes but its true. To add insult to injury Ilori - having not played a single minute has been loaned himself to a second rate Spanish side for the rest of the campaign.

Football these days like it or not, is about the here & now. Brendan Rodgers has weakened his own hand significantly. He hasn't used his transfer budget wisely at all. With the exception of Coutinho & Sturridge, most of his signings have bombed.

Liverpool are vulnerable now with 15 fit senior players with some crucial games coming up. And next season we probably wont have the opportunities we have had this year, as MUFC & Spurs strengthen.

100% right GOD 14

Probably gonna be shot down here but Coutinho has struggled with Suarez came back from suspension. Seems more comfortable in that role directly behind Sturridge. Suarez has come back in meaning Coutinho's game has taken a hit as he has had to be shifted to the left which he isn't comfortable in. You can sort of say the same about Hendo whenever Gerard plays. He seems to struggle. When Gerard injured Hendo looks top class.

I have always been a critic of B-Rod in the transfer market with Liverpool. Bit of money thrown away on players that he has had to loan out. Liverpool are not in the same bracket as City, Chelsea etc when it comes to this sort of luxury in the transfer market. You have to get players that can contribute now.

The last game in the CL was the 11th of December. Very slack from Liverpool again not to get the deal for Salah tied up at the start of the window. They have to get these deals done before anyone else has a chance. Done the same with Willian (went to Chelsea), Sigurossen (went to spurs), Eriksen (went to spurs), Lovern (went to Southampton).

Talk about Roman millions all you want but in this window Mourinho has sold De Bryne (17m to wolfsberg) and now Mata (37m to united) and bought Salah (11m) and Matic (21m). He is up 22m which probably covers Willian who he signed at the start of the season. They had identified Salah 6 months ago. It was 11m like. Alberto, who hasn’t kicked a ball yet, cost £7m. Chelsea would never have been interested only for the fact that the Mata deal was going through.

Have to agree with you there on the missed targets as you named above - all would have been decent additions but in the market we appear to be slow and everyone appears top know our business. BR took a gamble on Sturridge, no one else was prepared to take the risk due to the rumours about his selfishness etc and that IMO is the only reason we got him due to the fact that no one else wanted him. Any recent transfer targets in all honesty we have failed to get which could be down to a number of reasons; no money / Ian Ayre / Pool not attractive / no CL .....

The only way to break this is to go for broke and sign a few big names for CL qualification and if we don't make it then sell LS - at least we can look back and say that at least we tried to get there rather than looking back saying what if.....

How come Ryan Bertrand went to Villa instead of L'pool - Mourinho showing BR who is the boss and claiming that we are mishandling Moses and wouldn't let Bertrand do the same....

Unless we take risks now in next week or so - I am afraid it may go all downhill from here...............

Have heard on talksport that it is possibly 3 months minimum and that pool are interested to take Nigel De Jong (ex man City) from AC Milan on loan for 6 months. We are in trouble big time if we don't spend the money this month wisely, if at all. Not sure that we need any more front/wide men so would forgave Salal as other positions are more needy at the minute. Snedierlein from Soton would do a good job and could go straight in as could Mulumbu from WBA - good defensive midfielders with PL experience. If John Henry is serious about the 'project' then he needs to give BR 30M+ and take the gamble - it will pay off if we secure CL and he gets the money back immediately. Worse case is that we spend it, don't make the CL and we get 80M+ for Suarez but this is worst case scenario and one which I don't wish for. 30M could see 2/3 decent men come in and see the thing through till the summer and then get some dealing in/out done then. See that Coates and Ilori have gone on loan for 6 months so obviously they are not impressing because if they were any way showing up then they would get a chance the way the back 4 are going. reportedly Sakho back this weekend.

Poor performance against villa and with the owners present, I hope BR gets the necessary funds to strengthen the squad and it needs a bit of work to it. Are any of the Southampton players better than what we have, Lallana and Snedierlein come to mind but they could be bought as unrest it at their place and a bid could get them but not sure if that is what we need. Not sure about this guy Salal from Basle, never convinced when no other big clubs are vying for his signature - he scored against Chelsea twice in CL  but still no big clubs interested bar 'pool and Zenit it appears. Chelsea go and spend 20M on another defensive midfielder so they must not rate him especially as he is available at 10M or so.

Stevie G is causing us problems at the minute and I never thought I would see it never mind say it. We played much better without him and he seems to hinder the other younger lads around him who appear to be in awe or restricted in what they can do due to his presence. BR wants to play him and also DS in the first 11 and I am not so sure it is possible. Last year DS played great and start of this season but LS was not there, LS then plays well when DS not there and everyone played well when SG not there ......!!!!!

Definitely need a defined system that suits the front 2 and stick to it and if someone suffers as a result then so be it. BR appears to be trying to facilitate everyone and it causes problems. Competition for places is a must and necessary ingredient if we are to get to the top 4.

Have heard the rumours about McIlroy before but to what extent he is involved if any is debatable. Leinster have big non-Irish stars in current & previous times as did Munster so it is not a one off scenario. The puzzling thing is that with the increase in capacity = increase in revenue yet they have refused to meet the wage demands of Afoa and Court going forward and they both move on at end if this season. Both are experienced players so Ulster must have plan B in place - Muller reported to be retiring so that is 3 big time players gone and no immenent announcement of any replacements. I know they have Henderson, Fitzpatrick etc but needs numbers for the squad. How much is Zane Kirchner on with Leinster..? Highly rated full back on worldwide basis but so is Kearney so didn't see the logic in signing him especially as Leinster are not short of back line players.... Very expensive sub but a quality player all the same. BJ Botha wouldn't accept Ulster offer and went to Munster for bigger deal therefore money is readily available in all provinces if they deem it necessary.

Munster to win today and secure 4th and home draw against Leinster or CA ... Big game that would be....!!!!!!!

Well done EC - an expert like yourself to confirm the dive. Supporting utd now gives u a distinct advantage in analysing dives now that Januzaj and Young are the main culprits recorded in PL history as regards bookings for simulation. What did u expect Suarez to do - as Rodgers might say it was a Spanish dive. However, lucky decision and lucky to be 2-2 at the minute.

see in Irish news today that Ulster were 7/1 to win the HC outright last week but after last weeks win over Montpellier they are now 18/1 to win it. Strange, whilst admitting that Ulster failed to get bonus point the circumstances are still the same in that they have to win 2 games to get home qtr final. Leinster and Munster both dominant in their games after initial opening period and even though it looks like they will be away in quarter final, no other team will want to play them in April. Leinster will give it a real go and could go close, Munster would be very hard to beat in a tight game and Ulster could go close if they beat Leicester and secure home qtr final spot. Not sure if they have enough in the squad to go to Toulon / Toulouse or CA and gain a victory so it is critical that they win away this weekend.

Jordi Murphy looks a real find for Leinster and with O'Brien out for a while is certain to get plenty of game time and bring his game on. A certain Irish no.7/8 for the future but we are well served in this area anyway (Henry, Murphy, Ferris if fit, O,Mahony, O'Brien, Diack, Wilson, Jennings, Henderson, O'Donnell to name a few).
