Tyrone / Re: Tyrone senior championship
April 03, 2008, 11:15:59 PM
I'd say dromore will be hungry to defend their crown and with a team of now experienced winners they have the opportunity to push on for another championship. Carrickmore will also be very close IMHO with transferred and returning players hungry for the O'neill cup they will push Dromore all the way. I cannot see any other team winning the championship as these 2 teams have the skill and experience to win but I predict Dromore to win for the 2nd time.

I remember attending the Tyrone/Derry game in 1986. Was that in Celtic Park?

To answer my own question, no it wasn't. I remember it was in Omagh as we lost to Derry in Ballinascreen the year before. Beat Derry in Omagh in 84.

1.    Johnathan Curran
2.    Martin Swift
3.    Justin McMahon
4.    Ryan McMenamin
5.    Davy Harte
6.    Conor Gormley
7.    Philip Jordan
8.    Colin Holmes
9.    Sean Cavanagh
10.  Ryan Mellon
11.  Raymond Mulgrew
12.  Enda McGinley
13.  Niall Gormley
14.  Colm McCullagh
15.  Tommy McGuigan

Happy enough. Good to see Sean back in position.

Goodteam but the forward linelooks a bit weak IMO but my greatest concern is at full back. I don't think Justin Mc Mahon is our solution there. He is an attacking player and although he can fill important gaps I don't think he is our full back. We need to find a full back who can reliably mark players such as Paddy Bradley or Conal Keaney, and Mc Mahon  is not that player. He is a good player don't get me wrong but just not good enough for full back IMHO.

GAA Discussion / Tyrone vs Donegal

Might as well start one! Can Tyrone continue their steady improvement from the start of the year or will Donegall maintain their good form on 29th March?

Vehicle is rammed by armed police

Some of those arrested are being held at Letterkenny Garda Station
Police were forced to ram a van containing four BBC journalists after the driver allegedly failed to stop in County Donegal.
It is understood the vehicle was not being driven by any of the journalists, who were investigating dissident republican activity.

Heavily armed police arrested seven people at the scene.

All of the journalists were released. Four other men arrested in a follow-up search are still being questioned.

The arrests were made under Section 30 of the Republic's Offences Against the State Act.

The BBC has said the journalists were working on a current affairs investigation and had full editorial authority under the BBC's guidelines.

A spokeswoman said the other people present were fully aware that they were with BBC journalists.

The men, aged between 30 and 48, who still are being held were taken into custody on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

'Forced to stop'

BBC Northern Ireland home affairs correspondent Vincent Kearney said members of the Garda emergency response unit stopped a van containing seven people.

"Four of those people were BBC journalists. The van, I understand, was not being driven by a member of BBC staff," he said.

"I am told that initially the driver of the van refused to stop when ordered to do so.

"The van was then forced to stop when it was rammed by a police car. Heavily armed police officers forced open the doors and arrested all seven men inside.

"They were taken to three separate police stations and questioned under section 30 of the offences against the state act - the Republic's anti-terrorist legislation.

"Shortly before midnight, the four BBC journalists were released without charge.

"Three others arrested with them are still being held, as are four other men who were arrested in a follow-up operation yesterday afternoon."

The men can be held for 72 hours, after which they have to be released or charged.

GAA Discussion / Re: International Rules
March 17, 2008, 06:35:44 PM
Personally, I think the international rules are a great event for families and children. With a few rule changes I think this could become a long term event, and if the afl and gaa form a relationship maybe we will get to keep some of our more talented young players.

It's a disgrace that this is so widespread and almost is becoming the 'norm'. The gaa needs to step in and severely punish the supporter and if the club doesn't name and shame him the club should also be banned.
