Surely you should only be able to vote for one?  Otherwise the thread should be the Best Down Footballers..etc

Most people on here won't remember Sean O'Neill or any of the great 60's team so they start at a disadvantage immediately, unless people vote based on hearsay.

GAA Discussion / Re: Harte calls for GAA World Series

No flirtyflan,  I said jealousy AND rejection.   Are you telling me this doesn't exist with some (not the majority) Carmen fans?   FFS I'm even related to some I know are like that.  They can't stand Mickey Harte because a) he comes from & managed Errigal, b) he doen't select enough Carmen players and c)  (this is the best one yet, heard in Daly's bar after the 2005 AIF)  he lost us the Ulster final 05!   I mean wtf??  ???

Quoteamerican football with all its money was unable to spread its reach.

because a) it's shit to watch and b) you need to spend a small fortune in body armour and semi-pro organisation of games as its much too physical to play merely as a pastime just using a ball, unlike say basketball.
we are talking about a nation that watched irish immigrants play rounders, copied then renamed it baseball and made it the national sport.

Tyrone / Re: Tyrone Club Football and Hurling

A prototype of the most phenomenal scoring machine ever witnessed is currently being developed... can't say more than that at present. :-X

In my attic I must have over 150 programmes, most of which are Ulster Championship games.  I will be up there in Feb fishing out my ski gear.  If you have specific games that you are stuck on I'll see what I can do for you.   In fairness tho most are 1985/1986 onwards.

Eoin Gormley left the Tyrone panel a long time before MH took over.

He didnt play in the county final replay because he was injured in the drawn game!

Having spcoken with several players in the Tyrone camp, Mickey Harte doesn't put any drink ban in place per se.  He does however expect the lads to behave responsibly and look after themselves but if they'd like a pint then it's OK.   At the Club Tyrone dinner last year a fair few of the boys were having pints 2 days before a McKenna Cup game.

QuoteHardly, for the vast majority of his career he failed to score from play against us.

Surely for the majority of his career Armagh weren't around for him to score against?

Just back from Casement.  Didnt see the opener but came in at the final whistle and Stewartstown fans celebrated like they'd won and were talking about a get out of jail that Houdini would have been proud of.

Very strong wind in the Errigal v Ballinderry game and Errigal did not make the most of the breeze in the first half going in 5 -5.   Referee Seamus McGonigle gave some very dubious decisions all favouring Ballinderry.  On three occasions frees to Errigal were met with the Ballinderry players ruffing it up and on each occasion a throw ball resulted.  How Enda Muldoon stayed on the field is beyond me as he was the first man into every altercation.  Ballinderry had much the better of the first half and spurned a couple of goal chances.  The outfielded Errigal in every department, although Errigal should have undeservedly led at half-time given the number of wides they registered.   A Caolin Teirney point also looked suspiciously wide.

Second half Errigal came out of the blocks like men possessed however their complete dominance of the first 10 minutes only yeilded 1 point and kept them level.    Just like Errigal in the first half, Ballinderry did not use the wind to their advantage and registered a number of long range wides.

When Ballinderry went 2 up with 10 mins to go its looked like the writing on the wall however a Canavan free and an eventual Eoin Gormly long-range point, following several spurned chances, levelled the game again.   A draw looked like the outcome but when Conleth Gilligan kicked a monster last-minute point from beyond the 45 mtr line it looked like the end for Errigal.

The referee then on 2 occasions within a minute incensed the Errigal supporters by waving away what looked like legitimate frees within shooting distance.   Then at the death he gave a free from about 40 meters and the incessant protests of the Balinderry players meant he moved it forward twice to about 20 meters out.  PTG doesnt miss these and McGonigle  spared his own blushes following a poor refereeing performance by blowing up as soon as the ball went over the bar.  Severla incidents of striking by both sides resulted in yellows where a red looked the obvious outcome.  Overall a fair result and a great hard-fought game.  Should be a good replay!!

QuoteThats bull they've tried numerous times to do something with it after all the complaints

Perhaps I've just missed it then. Maybe you could provide some links to the previous investigations ordered by Brennan or Sean Kelly?
I don't have an anti soccer/rugby agenda and am an avid supporter of both codes.  My scorn is aimed at the Croke Park officaldom who are happy to order an investigation to ensure thre's no criticsm directed at the pitch when lucrative internationals are due, but do feck all of substance when the GAA players complain.

For 2 years despite the complaints of most teams who played on it all we got from Croker was "The playing surface is perfect, state of the art...blah...blah"

Now that it's soon to host it's first foreign games, an investigation into the long-heard complaints is taking place as a matter of urgency.   Our GAA players complain for years and nothing's done.  The IRFU & FAI raise the matter and Croker fall over backwards to placate them.    ??? >:( ???
