Antrim / Re: ANTRIM HURLING

They need to sort out the thing right and get an eight team division 1, 2,3  and 4. If we had it like this we would have realistic competitive games so have division 1 of kilkenny, cork, waterford, galway, limerick, tipperary, clare and then maybe wexford.

We could then be in division 2 with laois, offaly, dublin etc. Games which would be tough for us but manageable to win therefore division 1 would be an achievable promotion aim where you've actually beat good teams and learnt from it.. This division 2 nonsense at the minute where you could end up beating teams by 50+ points is no good to no-one. Realistically we're not in a position to compete wit the Kilkennys, Corks , Waterfords either so a division 2 with that calibre of teams would be useful enough.

The Offaly manager didn't care about Antrim or Laois either. He wanted a ten team to include his own team Offaly in it.

Not trawling through 5 pages of an argument so sorry if I repeat myself...

Is the CSA not about being remote from it's clients? If NI look after eastern england then it's likely some part of england look after ni CSA?

The political argument is ridiculous on this one. I dunno about the south but up here there are far too many. I've known too many people who go into these jobs and just get sucked in go nowhere and become, well or maybe they already are, lazy b******s. Don't get me wrong - I know a few in management who have done wellll but in quite a few cases the civil service makes lazy peoples lives easy because it can be the easy option for them. There should be a lot less up north and then that would not happen. That said this board would be a lot quieter without them!

People can train and play indoor football at lunch in their jobs. It's whether they make up the time which indicates how lazy they are / easy their job is...

Interesting to note the lack of dubs in most peoples teams! Wonder is that objective or subjective views...

Would Keaney not merit a place on a team?

Who's McNamara?

While McCloy was very good against Armagh I wouldn't have him on it. Dara O'se is also carrying a few too many pounds this year and I thought he waned against Cork. I'd stick Lacey in corner back. I'd stick a dub in midfield too - probably whelan.

It's hard to know about midfield. I didn't see galway sligo but saw the half time analysis on which they said ohara had a poor first half. He came off on 51 minutes so he must have had some 16 minutes if he's to be on the best team...

Cooper beat cork himself in a ten minute spell in the second half so he should be on it without a doubt.

Was training from the office one lunchtime so get changed and go to the disabled bogs as that's all we had on that floor. I close the door and lock it behind me. So I'm standing there taking a piss and then some woman walks in on me and screams "jesus christ"! Turns out the door had kind of "bounced" and I hadn't really locked it properly.

Had to run behind her and her mates for about 2 mile at snails pace for I couldn't pass them or I'd be recognised. Thankfully I didn't know or work with the woman. Man that was embarassing.

I always double checked that door from then on...

Tyrone - in league and McKenna cup have always had good tight games with Monaghan. I would doubt they will be in any way complacent. It remains to be see if on the big day Monaghan can perform but I think they can. Donegal have boys who just don't seem to cut it at times and they are a tired team at this point in time. Put Devenney on McMenamin or McNulty and he doesn't want to know. McFadden hasn't done it at this level either really bar one Tyrone match.

Monaghan have boys who are at that kind of level and I think they can perform. Tommy Freeman against McMenamim(or whoever the respective marker is) should be very interested. He will clearly be earmarked for "attention" and it will be good to see a top player having a test to stand up to which hopefully he will pass.

I've never seen a half back cover more ground in my life than Damien Freeman against Derry. He will however probably have to cover more to stick with Dooher! That also has the makings of an interesting tussle. Also interesting to see Woods in full forward. Maybe a targetman to target a perceived weakness there perhaps?

All in all though Tyrone should have too much. I wouldn't expect the likes of Mulgrew or young Kavanagh to thrive like they did the last day but I think it will be a damn good test of their mettle and also young McGuigan/ Gormley if they get a chance.

Big test of where Antrim are really at. Galway obviously really need the win so they need to be fired up and there will be no room for complacency especially since we beat them last year in the league.

It appears all is not well in Galway hurling and Ger maybe isn't quite the saviour some hoped he might be but, unfortunately, I would still expect them to have too much, unfortunately way too much, for Antrim.

If we get a good start and rattle them early you never know though as I would say confidence is down.

So Brick in your opinion then the standard of players coming through isn't good enough?

It is to be honest a real shame for Down that Clarke went to Oz although you can't blame him.

Your last minor team at the time looked like it had very good players. Your man Colgan looked superb but boys like him just have not come through at senior level at all. I saw him in Sigerson and he was relatively anonymous. Ireland looked very good at the time in minor(think he was only just overage the year of the minor win?) but seeing him in Sigerson and he looked , to be honest, rubbish. Questions maybe need to be asked as to what is happening to these boys between minor and senior to make them turn out like this?

Just a point from an outsider looking in...

The perception seems to be from Down folk that the structures in place in Down are not good enough. However if they aren't then how did you win two minor all irelands in the last 8/9 years? Would the perception be that this is the schools coaching? From an outside viewpoint it seems transitioning players into good senior players would be your main problem - the question would be why is this? Would it be the standard of club football perhaps? It seems very one sided with Mayobridge and I do believe in years to come Crossmaglen being so dominant in Armagh football will have a detrimental effect on the county team so could it maybe be something like this? Just to add to debate - not an expert and would like to see Down come strong again.

Between Crossmaglen and Armagh's continued success McConville has hardly had a proper rest in years so it's little wonder if he's slowing up. Maybe a good rest now would do him the world of good.

Paddy McKeever could be a good case of burnout. Was he not nearly playing for Armagh while still at school? I mind reading reports of McRory matches where other teams had to put 2 or 3 boys on him.

From what I read not too sure Bellaghy 1sts could beat Bellaghy 3rds!!

Scoring forward, leaders and all sorts in that 3rd team!!

Dunloy and Glenravel reserves play in division 6 as well as Ballycastle so one of those three would likely be your best bet.

Cargin reserves would beat a lot of senior teams so unless you're of a particularly high standard I would stay away from them. By high I would say you'd need to be top 3 or 4 reserve teams in Down. No idea what standard East Down reserve league is.

Pollock, D OHagan and MGaule came on.

Who's D O'Hagan - I assume that's the St Brigids boy? Gees I'd not have thought that boy was near county standard if it's the same boy, no harm to him..

M.Gault?? No idea who that is - anyone know??

Good to see Dougan back on the panel.(He was away wasn't he). He's a useful forward that boy.

The problem for Cork was that they came into it in midfield in the second half when they moved Cussen out but then because they'd moved Cussen out they didn't have the option left inside.

The ref. couldn't see the penalty as they showed on the sunday game.

Cork have some decent defenders and Murphy, Kavanagh, Cussen and Masters are pretty good but that aside they have a load of forwards who are round the same level and are just not much better than half decent county forwards.

I think the GAA would be right from banning him coaching kids. However not sure about the banning from matches??

Horrible situation but if you did it in a teaching job you'd be suspended until everything cleared so GAA doing correct in this case. He was a full time coach wasn't he? Career ruined then too. Horrendous.
