GAA Discussion / Re: Derry V Galway MFC

I think you're treating this thread rather more seriously than it deserves to be treated!

Take a look at the other threads this same boy has started and then see if he deserves to be taken seriously.

Hurling Discussion / Re: Cody vs Loughnane
September 05, 2007, 12:21:09 PM
Loughnane is losing credibility - and fast.

Brian Cody is an admirable man who deserves a lot of respect. Loughnane spouts a lot of publicity hunting sh**e at times. What he said about Antrim and what he said about Kilkenny this year have been most unsporting.

I think even some of Loughnane's great team have lost respect for him and from a man who had a team with Colin Lynch and Brian Lohan in it the "pushing boundaries" comment is a bit much.

You could see the respect in Eddie Brennan for Cody during his interview.

Kilkenny have some strong hard hurlers and fair enough Eddie Brennan's hit was maybe a bit dirty at the start of the game but that aside I didn't see much in them on Sunday in that regard. I would have said it was out of character for Eddie Brennan too.

I wouldn't get carried away by what is nothing more than speculation from a source no-one knows is in anyway reliable!!

Derry have done well to get this far. Galway are a good team and they'll do well to beat them but they're in with a great shout.

GAA Discussion / Re: Mike Frank Russell

Did he not score a hat trick in a hogan final win circa 96?

It was the year Maghera had a few suspensions from the ill tempered McRory final and I think Neil Farren was suspended. Russell was the FF for the Kerry team but it was reckoned if Farren was playing he'd have scored so such tally...

It just shows you when you see what happened the Leicester fella how valuable these things actually are.

It's pretty bad Milltown - you guys have it all sewn up and the manner of Creggan's defeat given how well they've been going is pretty demoralising for us all as you're miles above all of us!

I would expect you to win the final by about 5 or 6.

GAA Discussion / Re: best XV in the country

Cluxton

Marc O'Se
Kevin McCloy
Canty

Tomas O'Se
Conor Gormley
Anthony Lynch??

Nicholas Murphy
Dara O'Se

Declan O'Sullivan
Alan Brogan
Tommy Freeman

Colm Cooper
Paddy Bradley
Stephen Bray

Kerry - 5
Cork - 3
Dublin - 2
Derry - 2
Meath - 1
Monaghan - 1
Tyrone - 1

That's what I think - and Cavanagh could arguably be in there. However with politics it will never work out like that!!

Hurling Discussion / Re: Galway V Cork U21 SF

This was a hugely entertaining game.

The report really mirrors what I thought. Cork's no 5 and no 6 were very good. The full back also got the better of Joe Canning on a number of occassions. Naughton and the wee 13 were also very dangerous. Naughton has some pace but his choice of shot / pass leaves a bit to be desired at times.

Galway always looked a classier side you felt but they should have been beat in normal time. The goalie made some great saves and the no 6 / no 7 looked excellent. Canning and Wade and the wee 23 were all class. Canning can point from anywhere, his sideline cuts are as good as most peoples frees and he has great vision. He passed through to 13 in the first half and I don't think the wee 13 could believe he'd seen him so missed what should have been a certain goal and I think he did this another time or two. If that boy were to stop eating the pies he could be one of the best ever. Wade is very good too - possibly a bit light for the senior level but he'll fill out.

Are profitable social clubs not pretty much a thing of the past now anyway?

Things done in country clubs to raise funds - poker nights, player funds, lottos - which are generally pretty successful - and big draws every 3/4 years. Also a lot of country clubs charge in to league matches (not much mind) but it does get them some money and I have yet to see a city club that charges in to a league match.

Festivals in country clubs are big enough earners too. Country clubs have the benefit in that in most places the club is the centre of the community. The city doesn't really have this advantage so all these things make it more difficult in the city.

According to county site rossa are out.

I'm not sure whether or not they have raised an appeal - there seems conflicting stories.

Made no sense for them to play that quater final they could have been in early though.

They're not good enough to win it anyway. Take Bell and Close out and you've a very average team. Put them in and it's still an average team.

agreed culchy - moneyglass have already won intermediate from division one so not sure what good it's doing them. or dunloy for that matter either. maybe from dunloy's perspective they just want to win something.

have heard big reports of your man pollock but have never seen him in action. can't understand why he wasn't in u21 squad - i would suspect politics.

with boys like him, mcgourty and crozier we should have some hope for the future!
