As regular readers will know, I shed no tears at the demise of Monaghan and Fermanagh. Fermanagh, a team that grinds and chokes teams into submission and hopes to gain enough points at the other end to sneak a win; a team that doesn't have the ability, confidence or tactical nous to win a game on its own merits. Monaghan, a team that has taken the dark arts to new levels and that strangles  and out muscles teams but when they come up with a team prepared to fight fire with fire they don't have it.

No, I slept easier last night, knowing neither side would again sully the hallowed sod this year.

Pot, Kettle, black come to mind: Hardly the most free scoring team of all time. Efficient effective yes but no style. Utter balderdash in the comments re Monaghan who can mix physicality, passion and style. Just ran out of steam in the end but a welcome sight at later stages of the AI. Hope banty stays on to give it one more lash

Provincial losers should get home advantage in the 3rd round.....they deserve to get a reward for getting that far...
Provincial winners should get home advantage when they play the qualifiers...
How would that work this year with Armagh who do not have a gound where you could play Keady Old Girls select game never mind a 3rd round All Ireland Q/f

Quote5 ulster teams in the last 8

If this were to happen it would be terrible for football. The quarters, semi and final would reduce to a dour war of attrition where sides will win by stopping the other team from playing rather than going out to win it themselves. Lets hope Mayo, Wexford and Kildare prevail and that Kerry can defy the odds against a rampant, belligerent Monaghan with their "corner-boys doing the seige of Ennis"  warm-ups

Make no mistake, we are at a critical juncture here...its good v evil. The very soul of football is at stake !
how in Gods name can you accuse Down of being defensive given the scores against tally this season. They must be doing something attractive to outscore their high scoring opponents. I doubt even if you have a case against Tyrone or Monaghan

Three horrible incidents over the weekend, where players are trying to get opponents sent-off. Westmeath man deserved to go for his punch but Dooher is due a proper slap that really will put him down. Clancy should have a real look at himself, as should Roper. These 3 apart, it is becoming more and more common for players on every team to go down easy to get a cheap free.

As Tommy Lyons said last night, footballers need to get some integrity and have a look at where they are going with the game. Once again the Hurlers from yesterday are prime examples of how it should be done.

If footballers are going to continue to go down this route it is yet poison taking grip of the game.
I must agree with a lot that Tommy lyons said last night, particularly the role of the GPA in all this. I think it is imperative that they come out clearly on this issue on the side of the Games and the integrity of the association itself. This nonsense has crept in over the last few years and there is no one county more guilty than another nor one club more guilty than another, but it is ruining the game.

No, I do not think he is but only expressing a wish that he had been called up early on particularly after U 21 campaign. would be difficult to expect anyone else to step up to the required intensity if they had not been training at this level all year.

Depending on what Moyes , O'Neill and 'Arry do in the transfer market, this summers signings should just about cement your customary Champions League Qualifying position --4th
