GAA Discussion / Re: GPA or GAA?
February 26, 2007, 02:11:57 PM
it's a stupid arguement to say that if you don't agree with the gpa you are not for players welfare.

of course the county lads are to be looked after but the gpa would happily let the club men rot.

the gaa has just appointed a players welfare officer too so give him a chance.
the gpa have some good aspects but i don't like how they operate. its too easy just to concentrate on the negatives of the gaa. i mean realistically what have they ever done except run to the press with a sob story. they exploit players too.

you may sneer the brick for that but i know a lad who turned up for kildare training one night and was given a GPA top and he explained he never joined the thing. he was then informed he was a member all along. i heard too that some of the GPA award winners weren't even members.

had to laugh last year too at them weighing in behind the club fixtures debate even though club men can't join.

as is pointed out the gaa have to look at the big picture. two weeks ago the there was a coaching conference in maynooth and i was told it cost 19 grand. the gpa don't take this stuff into account and only want to look after a minority of players.

the bro in law was lookin into it. wanted to play hurling with home club and do a bit of junior ball with us.
he was lucky though coz his home hurling club are run under an amalgamation club.

still though its some shite if ya wnat to wind down a career. there should be a get out clause.

great idea but you wouldn't want to let jinnets commentate.

that fan zone on sky is pure crap. two eegits shouting united, etc into the mike where their teams do no wrong. meanwhile the other lad is spoutin on.

still if ya had a good lad for the job it would be great.
what about eddie maroney? ;D

GAA Discussion / It sickens my hole!

sorry just an aside from the GAA windfall thread it sickens me when i hear lads saying "ah the GAA is minted, they should pay the players". a guy i know suggested a that county teams go pro coz the GAA "can afford it. look at how good rugby has done"

yeah all the AIL teams are fucked and the poor lads in the west are left in the cold.

do people not realise that every club in ireland gets grants from the GAA if they are doing a big project and have it planned well.
do they not realise all the money involved in setting up a blitz or something like that.
its not a vaible option to go down this route. unlike the darc and drico who wouldnt know the name of any young lad fron his club team the gaa is different.
why dont they ask what the pro sports are doing to their money and the irfu ask someone from ab AIL club the great benefits of professionalism.

it should go long term for the coaching of kids. if they all got proper coaching through camps there would be less of a gap in skill levels down the years.

as a kildare man. on a national level Johnny Doyle is often forgotten about, he is overlooked coz we are crap at the mo.
over rated players the list are endless in kildare, great white hopes abound.

under
national level paul barden is shockin under rated, pure class. mcguigan as well, you see how important he is to tyrone when he is gone. times gone by o'cinneide who was more than a dead ball man. excellent vision too. anthony lynch too nearly forgot him.

over
yea mossy quinn, peadar andrews and goggins. how are they makin it still. peadar gardiner is a wing back who doesnt defend. sean cavanagh is a player still in search of his proper position too. dont think he is a proper midfielder.

best of luck to the moores and confey.

would love to see paddy murray get an all-ireland medal after two horrible years with injury.

moorefield are big hoors, only saw a bit of crokes v the neath and they must be worried about the power they are facing.

its some ball of dung.

not good for any county.

even though we won leinster with odwyer and lacey it never sat well with me to have them playing.

lacey actually called a lad i know a 'meath f**ker' after a match coz of where his club was based. I GIVE UP! the irony of it all

to be honest heard a few things from lads up there, not media stuff.

not sayin he's a sack but at times he undermines management.
#1199
its bewildering why he's not picked for fermanagh. id say they just had their fill of him.

it'll go grand for a while but if he doesn't get his way he'll fall out with keoghan too.

put him in the same boat as frankie dolan, big talent but not worth the hassle interms of the team.

i love the international matches but went to my first match in donnybrook there 2 weeks ago.

jaysus it was some ball of shite. youd nod off.

id rather a league match any day.
