The 1982 team. Still my favourite World Cup song. Don't know the nature of Alan Hansen's illness but please god he'll pull through.

Quote from: weareros on June 14, 2024, 11:37:03 PMDidn't realise we had the worst performance in Euro history with our -8 in 2012. I doubt Scotland will exceed that as Hungary are clearly shite. But at least we had The Fields to sing as we were getting hammered. Flower of Scotland is not a patch on it.

Were Hungary not on an  (until the Ireland game) unbeaten run of 14? That's not bad

I think they'll be happy to meet Scotland

I know but Scotland are still a slight bit better than Ireland. They could still get something out of the Swiss and Hungary games.

Rough on the Tartan Army, but at least they'll enjoy some good German beer.

Quote from: From the Bunker on June 04, 2024, 09:19:38 PMCapacity of Hyde 18,890? You'll never fit all those famed travelling Dubs in there? You do know the Dubs will travel anywhere in large numbers?

That was the restricted capacity, redevelopment work done since and it's 23,900 now

Still won't be enough room. The Dubs travel in large numbers, especially in the Championship. Just look at the statistics. They love a good journey across the Shannon.  ;D
I'm guessing 18 to 20k will attend that Hyde Park round 3 game and I might be optimistic on that figure given the attendances in this group so far for both Dublin and Mayo games.

Roscommon v Mayo - 8,597

Mayo v Cavan - 9,197

Dublin v Roscommon - 11,176

Cavan v Dublin - 9,028

Roscommon Herald reported earlier that 14000 tickets sold for Dublin Mayo as of Friday morning. With capacity of 24,000, looks like it will fall well short.

The farming community are very aware of the importance of MEPs. Ming did a great job in getting CAP policy to be changed on a per hectare basis as the previous policy was a disaster for Ireland's biodiversity by forcing farmers who remove natural habitats and make land more productive. Now they will get paid not to change what is good for nature. The Greens were strong on that issue too but Ming managed to get it done. FG and FF tend to do well because they are pro-EU traditionally pro-farmer parties so will be seen as safe pair of hands in keeping those subsidies coming. SF has a history of being anti-EU and they have not overcome that yet with older rural voters. Daly and Wallace were perceived to spend most of their time on international conflicts but all politics is local, even MEPs, as Ming showed with CAP.

Áras next stop.

Some laugh with some far right "Irish" amadáns on X giving out about the Palestine and Ukraine flags as Ming was held aloft. The latter was of course the primrose and blue of Ros.

Meanwhile Ming thinking of having a shot at the Áras next year 💛💙.

Would clare kerrane be in trouble next GE rossfan? I'd suspect II will top the polls, could carry 2 and FF might only run 1 next GE and no Denis.

No I doubt it. Indeed if you look at the Roscommon locals Sinn Fein did fine in the Boyle/Ballaghadereen electoral area (and poorly in affluent South Roscommon), although a lot of retiring Sinn Fein councillor Michael Mulligan's vote went to independent Michael Frain (former FG, former Labour). But overall SF had a strong vote in North West Roscommon. Michael Mulligan of course spoke out strongly about Ballagh being a dumping ground for refugees and somewhat got his hand slapped by SF leadership at the time. Those elected were not far right but they were still of the "enough is enough" "if they can build modular homes for refugees, why not for Irish people" variety. I'd say Clare will be fine because there's a strong feeling in that part of Roscommon that it has been abandoned by the government. And it has. It once was very strong Fine Gael territory - James Dillon's hometown afterall. In fact that elderly man who was all over twitter giving out about how the town was abandoned was a former FG councillor himself.

Quote from: weareros on June 12, 2024, 01:07:17 PMUnionism played so dirty on this one. Future funding for Casement was suddenly responsible for the dire state of the health service and not the 100 years of Unionist/British misrule. Casement won't be funded and the health service will still be on its feet. I hope FAI insist that Ireland get one of the two automatic spots for Euro 28 (even if we are shite). Let GB decide how they want to allocate the other spot. That will soften their cough. Irish government/GAA should continue to fund a great stadium in Belfast. Decisions should not be made because crowds overall are down this year. It won't always be like that.

Won't it?

The way things are going , with  the championship structures, and  the inevitable devaluing of the provincial  (well, Ulster) championship, I'd imagine crowds  will go down  even more in the years ahead.

I think this  delay in Casement being built might be a blessing in disguise for  the GAA.  As 5times5times (so good they named him twice) said above , we don't need another white elephant

Totally get that. But if you look globally the one thing that draws big crowds are concerts and sports. So I know the GAA is not Liverpool, Man City, Barcelona or the New York Yankees - but it still should go into future confident that will be an attractive day out for supporters, and this will inevitably mean some showcase stadia in our main cities.

A crypt with mummified remains that was said to have inspired Bram Stoker's Dracula destroyed in fire after someone set fire to historic St Michans church.

Still a great run by Rhasidat - that race will stand to her going forward, maybe even as soon as the Olympics.
