Quote from: Milltown Row2 on January 18, 2024, 10:37:16 AMThere are a few things different from back in the day..

Pitches are harder
Shoes are different
Training in the gym
Kids are made of paper
Every injury now requires surgery!!
Players know about, hamstrings and metatarsals and ligaments (was a sore leg in my day)

Players are bigger
Diet plans

Few other factors as to why we have these injuries I'm sure..

The enjoyment I'm sure is still there but, seems like hard work in comparison to the, hill runs during the week preseasons and the drills with the ball at the weekend

Aye exactly this.  I find the young guys coming from our minor team to the senior team are all specialists in complicated injuries and are getting told they need surgery etc.

There are no more "sore legs" its all hamstring tendinopathy this and osteitis pubis that.

I think parents have a lot of input here putting it in their heads they are 'injured', rather than just sore.

Yeah obviously theres going to be genuine cases of muscles going and stuff but I'd say a fair amount of the time players need to man the f**k up and play through a bit of discomfort.

Not allowed to say 'man up'. Get with the program!!!

While players now have greater conditioning opportunities etc I would question that they are any 'stronger' than we were 25 years ago. Could maybe bench press more but genuinely question their core strength. As for fitness,  I've trained teams the way we trained when I was playing and they could not do it. Simple as that

Agree with that. Not questioning that players are fitter now but it was a different gig. No floodlights, about 8 traffic cones with the emergency lights on top of them at various points on the pitch and not a ball in sight for midweek training until about march.

To be fair, most players turned up in Jan needing to lose about 2 stone which is not the case now but it was brutal going!

Quote from: TabClear on January 18, 2024, 08:19:10 AMInteresting article on the prevalence of injuries in young players with Liverpool and the reasons for it as they step up to the first team. I know in my own club there is a massive increase in longterm injuries in young players coming into the senior squad  compared to when i started about 20 years ago and the increased training intensity must be part of it, particularly when you consider the typical club player is not going to have access to the level of monitoring

20 years ago training was running and hard running and more running with drills ....

Absolutely agree. There is no doubt players now are on a different level fitness and strength wise. However, this definitely seems to be coming at the cost of players picking up more injuries and the article seems to give some indication of why this happpens. Not sure there is any solution if one of the best resourcesd sports clubs in the world is experiencing the same issues.

Quote from: gawa316 on January 02, 2024, 12:07:56 AMThought Jones and to a slightly lesser extent Endo were great. Gomez has slotted in nicely at LB.

That game probably should've finished about 8-2.

I for one love Nunez but if he was playing for another team I'd probably slag him off like others here. I used to do the same about Andy Cole cause there was not much else to slag when utd were winning trophies left, right and center.

Gomez has been excellent to be fair since he stepped in at left back.

Same number of shots (34) last night as the United game but a totally different match. Against United liverpool were really poor and most of the shots were speculative, last night they were really clear chances and a combination of bad luck, great keeping and poor finishing kept the score down. You do feel for Nunez, he has a couple of really good strikes that are well saved and then Gakpo comes on and scuffs one that completely wrongfoots the keeper.  ::)  ::)

City still the main danger and I fully expect them to go on a run but nice to be top for a few weeks! Hopefully Szoboslai's injury not too serious, even though his performances have dipped, we will need him with Endo away.

Quote from: Eire90 on December 19, 2023, 01:50:48 AMWould solution not be to split junior league in two and have a home and away format in the two divisions.

THe championship should probably remain the same your always going to have some one sided games and you cant really have a 8 knockout team championship only 3 games to win a title (tho i think fermanagh senior championship is only 8 teams)

Probably the best idea even though it effectively creates 4 divisions. It would stand the teams better in both sections having more games that are competitive and would likely lead to tighter leagues if teams are playing each other twice. Too many matches this year that were a waste of time for both teams.

The two things are not in conflict at all, we should have both.

In the current economic climate of course they are in conflict. I know from my side, if it was a choice between ten more nurses in the NHS in the province or every sign in Irish it's a no brainer  as far as I'm concerned.

Can anyone provide a very high level overview on the current state of Bitcoin/cyrptocurrencies etc? I see a few posts there about Gaming and AI coins, but I've never even heard of those.

I feel like I'm missing out and could be making some money on side  ;D

If you can get them to explain what drives the value fluctuations as well I would be interested in hearing that.......

1) on your own
2) with another first team member
3) with a squad member
4) with a squad member from the neighbouring parish
5) with a woman (over 40)
6) with a woman (under 40)
7) with a sheep

9) all the above

Liverpools defence is giving up too many chances and don't have a proper 6.

I don't even think a good number 6 is needed in the new system when you've 2 of the best number 8s in the league. Teams are constantly on the back foot against it.

And yet defensively they are giving up too many chances?

And yet they have played City, Spurs, Chelsea and Newcastle away and Villa/Brighton at home and have the second best defensive record in league?

I suppose there's  ways around that too.

Ah feck it,  football is a farce . I blame Jimmy Hill

The whole point of FFP was to keep the same teams at the top perpetually. Giving the same spending limit to all teams wouldn't achieve that goal.

Salary Caps like the AFL/NFL have are the only way to keep it competitive. 12 different Superbowl winners and 10 different AFL premiership winners in ;ast 25 years. However, the difference in these sports is that there is no alternative market, they are both country specific. For it to work in soccer it would need a collective agreement among the top 10 leagues at least and turkeys dont vote for Christmas....

2pm Next Sunday 19th in Pomeroy.
Coalisland by 4. Have the players to mark Conroy and Coleman.

Probably agree, player for player Coalisland seem to have the better matchups over the field to come out on top.

The only thing I'd say against Coalisland is that they haven't played much football lately, compared to Moy who have got to a championship final and had two playoff matches in recent weeks

Think that stood to Drumragh in the div 2 playoff. Since they lost the championship final they won the Reserve Championship and got through  couple of play off and definitely looked stronger in the last quarter compared to kileeshil who have been sitting around waiting for over a month for a competitive game. Drumragh might surprise a few teams next year. It's a big step up for them but they seemed to have good strength in depth judging by their bench. Kileeshil will be gutted to lose after leading for most of the game but they should come straight back up. Not that is that easy as a few teams recently have found out.

Quote from: Armamike on November 02, 2023, 10:16:03 AMHard to know where to start to get them back competing.  On the face of it there's few players there that are worth keeping.  Over 400 mill spent since summer 2022 - a lot of which was spent on players past their peak or other who simply didn't warrant the fee and weren't proven.  Players who should have been shipped out years ago are still there, which only festers negativity. Bonkers.  Get rid of Ten Hag and who do you replace him with.  Take a gamble on the Brighton manager or someone else who hasn't proved it at the very top level?  Groundhog Day.

There have been some sliding doors moments for United over the past few years. Signing  Maguire when City wanted him, Ronaldo the same. Mount in the Summer was apparently Liverpool's top target and I think they were rumoured to be looking at Antony as well :o  :o . I think Liverpool got lucky this summer with Caicedo as that was definitely a panic move but in general the difference seems to be that United refuse to be "outbid" for a target whereas City/Liverpool/Arsenal etc generally have a valuation in mind and if it is exceeded they walk away.

Chelsea are the closest to United's approach and while that has not ended up well at least Chelsea buys are generally younger and on lower wages. United still have some decent players (which after £400m plus spend is crazy that you even have to comment) but as was said above, they have so many players on crazy money it would cost a fortune to reset. Despite the spend you would be hard pushed to name a single United player who would start in the City/Arsenal/Liverpool teams.

What were the red cards for? TV stream didn't have it and the commentators had no clue. Had no impact on the result anyway, Think both were in injury time. Drumragh did well to weather a poor start to the 2nd half. Looked like cookstown  were going to turn it round.

Will be an interesting final. Fintona have some serious pace through the team  but Drumragh have provably a stronger panel judging by their bench options last night.

Junior Champnionship quarters went according to form anyway looking at the league positions.

Aghaloo through with a few points to spare on Saturday to play Fintona who looked good yesterday. Drumquin conceded two early goals  and Fintona's forward line racked up an impressive tally. Unfortunately Drumquin's discipline meant they played most of the second half with 13 men due to two reds and had a ten minute spell with 12 after a black card which meant it was never really in doubt.

Cookstown  beat Eskra in a tight game and they will meet Drumragh on the other side of the draw who can count themselves fortunate to have got past Glenelly yesterday by a point.

On the weekend's performances Fintona are the form  team with Cookstown/Fintona final looking the most likely outcome, which would mean that both  teams are promoted irrespective of the result.
