Quote from: johnnycool on January 26, 2024, 10:57:26 AMThe timing is right, he leaves the club in rude health playing wise and I wouldn't bet against them winning the PL.

He'll not get involved in coaching for at least a year and then a big club like Real Madrid will be his next stop.

I wonder is the timing of the announcement right though. It went to shit for Utd when Fergie announced his retirement early, to the point that he changed his mind and stayed on.

I think there's a good chance he'll not go back into club management.

I reckon he will become German manager after the Euros. Julian Nagelsmann is still young and would want to be still a club manager surely.

Jurgen will be the next Irish manager.

(or maybe not)
I Love the pronunciation of Jürgen in a Liverpool accent

Slippy G. Sign him up.
sure flopps useless him staying be a good thing surely?

He is and it is.

In all seriousness it will be a good case study in terms of can a club keep performing at a high level when they lose their manager. Does having all the proper structures negate the impact of losing him.

Surely the case study has already been done with Man United.

Bob Paisley replaced Shankly. Complete domination in England and Europe for next 8-9 years....

Gutted is an understatement. Hopefully Alonso is lined up

Not so sure if the timing right, I know it was said in the statement he told the club he was leaving in November but is that news that needs to be made public during a title race?

Xabi Alonso the clear favourite to be his replacement.
Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

Is that a massive risk? Doing it with the expectations of Liverpool is a big difference to what he's doing now. He does seem to have something about him to be fair.

Any replacement will be a risk given the job he's done. So glad Gerrard made a pigs ear of job at Villa as he would been favourite otherwise.

Too young for the Shankly news but remember clearly the Dalglish announcement. Punched a wall didn't I.

Gutted.

I will be making no further comment on this matter

He said it would have been impossible to keep it a secret & that he's surprised it hasn't leaked.

Can't criticise, we forget sometimes they are human beings & everyone has a limit. He said he wants to see what it's like to have a normal life, he hasn't had one for 24 years.

Would be a massive step up for Alonso, he could be the next Pep/Klopp but he could also be the next Lampard.
Man United found out it's not easy replace a genius, Liverpool won't want to make the same mistake.
Klopp has done amazing at Liverpool, if it wasn't for the cheating at Man City he would have at least 4 Premier League titles.

Would it be a big surprise if FSG selling to the Saudi's, or some other oil state is the next big news out of Anfield?
