This even applies if you want to do a change of use from offices etc to apartments. I dont think people realise the issues that this is going to cause in the near future.
NI water are calling the shots.
Presumably because they lack the infrastructure for additional load on the system?

The system is already overloaded due to years of underinvestment and feeding into the issues in Lough Neagh. It's not entirely down to farmers.

On the who pays for it, there will need to be some sort of additional water tax plus developers need to dig deep as well for other aspects of it on new builds.

Sounds like an Irish Water style debacle. Basically holding the country to ransom. Give us a tax or else.

There may be legitimate reasons for this tax, but coercion won't help the sell.

Could you trust them to spend extra tax wisely? That's a massive no, north and south. That's the real core issue behind these departments.

The infrastructure literally isn't there. Whatever about how NI water is run, you can't sit and complain about them holding the place to ransom and at the same time gurn about the state of Lough Neagh.

No one has any confidence in any of the MLA's to sort out the fundamental issues of running this place

Paying more tax so that it can be used to run other things, like legacy issues, ongoing court cases about flegs and now marching up Drumcree, immigration, policing riots of which should not be draining the life out of the coffers needed to have better infrastucture, health, education, housing and cost of living

Maybe this is just a ploy to make the place unworkable

No issues paying tax but we've zero accountability for what goes out

I think other places are in the same boat though with quite a few of those things. In England the rivers are a mess despite water companies being privately owned. They have just used their profits to pay dividends and not invest and are now looking for money for the government to help with the infrastructure. You couldn't make it up.

The drumcree stuff is quite the curveball here. It really is just drum beating and election year.

I don't get the more extreme unionist viewpoints. The dup should want to make stormont work. The less it work the more likely undecided voters - who they need - will be thinking a united ireland will be better than this. Even drum fee is a significant own goal.

Arlene foster and Brexit expedited talk of a united ireland more than any nationalist party ever did and the current incumbents look to be no different.

More money not gonna sort the problem, they just waste it. They keep throwing money at the NHS, but things just get worse, cause they no plan. Problem comes from the Hill, people are begining to see they voted in, on political lines, not ability to do work. Yet they always get voted in, so people can take alot of the blame here. Cant agree on 1 thing for the benefit of all, its to suit themselves, and their parties. We chase Irish Language signs, flying flags, walking parades, but not address hospital issues, Lough Neagh.Infrastructure projects,

NHS main issue is the lazy male employees not doing their fair share.

Well thats what my female relatives who work in NHS maintain anyway.

Its around 80% female employees, so it couldn't possibly be their fault....

Come off it... Its the system that is failing us and the complete lack of funding in general. Nurses cant pull beds out of the sky!

The people at "ground" level are doing their best. Having experienced a lot of areas within the NHS over the last year the bureaucracy and layers there are is ridiculous. It is very bloated.

Consolidate into one trust...

The problem is that even if NI water get additional money now it will take at least a decade to bring the system up to standard as it means digging and laying new pipes as well as upgrading treatment works in every town in the north.

On a separate note people are concerned about the algee in the lough (rightly so) but there is a far worse element emptying into the lough and NI water are not actively testing for its levels. PFAS (forever chemicals). Lough Neagh is prime for retaining these and they are not removed from drinking water. People need to get on to their MLA's to put pressure on NI water to start testing and release the data. These chemicals are a real treat to our quality of life and to our children's lives.

Who's putting PFAS's into the lough?
