A (stolen, of course) f**king Yaris with 8 teenagers in it. The physics alone of that are mind boggling.

They got very, very lucky. Thankfully didn't kill anyone.

Anyone who drives in the wrong direction on a motorway or road is playing "Russian roulette" with people's lives, the Garda Representative Association (GRA) has said.

The association's vice-president, John Joe O'Connell, also said gardaí need better training to deal with such incidents.

Was there a similar incident in Cork as well? Madness.

Would spikes at the end of sliproads be a realistic option to stop the pricks going the wrong way? I suppose even if they were put in what's to stop them simply going down the correct slip road and doing a u-turn.

Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly yesterday afternoon hit out at those who drive down motorways the wrong way, saying it was "appalling" and often done for social media "likes" – a reference to joyriders recording themselves for sharing on social media platforms.

In comments that are perhaps unprecedented in their strength in the aftermath of a multiple fatality road crash, Kelly said the "horrific incident shows how irresponsible and dangerous driving on the wrong side of the motorway is".

"(What) makes this reckless behaviour even more appalling is that, in some cases, it is being done for social media likes regardless of the potentially devastating impact it might have on innocent people and themselves," he said.

I'd normally have that philosophy but in this case I'd make an exception. Little pricks causing so much devastation

Though many of these groups are travelling around trying to break into homes and vehicles parked outside houses, for-profit crime does not appear to be their main objective. Rather, they are motivated by a desire to get themselves into reckless scenarios, which they record for the purpose of sharing on social media. Ultimately, their aim is to gain kudos from their peers.

Wrong way motorway deaths are a scourge here, almost exclusively linked to alcohol blackout drivers. At least 3-4 incidents per year. Usually late at night in the pitch black and usually some innocent victim involved.

I cannot comprehend the lack of intelligence that makes this a chosen recreational pursuit. Cretins well wiped from the earth - and their families should know that or also be lacking in the smarts.

Is there nothing that can be done to stop these hoors? Directional spikes or the likes?

Not to talk ill of the Dead, but them lads seem to have been causing problens for awhile, the parents arent stupid. Nobody deserves that end,but they delibrately drove down that motorway, knowing they risking other peoples lifes, with no regard. There alot of heavy flak to them on facebook, not helped by the families bumming these hoods up. And not a note of the serious accident or people badly hurt, they caused.

The cops get pretty aggressive in the event they are aware of a wrong way driver before a terminal situation, but the busy nature of most freeways here means even in dead of night a fatality is almost guaranteed

They will deploy the strips if they can to stop a car, but they can't put them in place as a permanent structure. Often the emergency services will use the other side of the freeway to attend accidents etc..

In finance there are 2 types of models. Quant models and Scenario models.
Quant models lose loads of money. Scenario models make a lot of money
Quant models are male. Scenario models are female.
