Quote from: Look-Up! on October 07, 2026, 05:30:20 PMCavan champions to host Armagh. Smart money will be on Armagh as wins for Cavan clubs in this competition are like hens teeth. But we've been knocking on the door of late.

Gowna should have picked up a win v Noamh Conaill but for ill-discipline and a stupid late goal. Penalties V Enniskillen. Crosserlough ran Kilcoo very close. Kingscourt were very disappointing v Erne Gaels last year but Faulkner had gone travelling at that stage so was a massive miss. If Kingscourt go forward this year it will be their second title in 2 years. If it's Gowna it'll be their third in 5. So I wouldn't be expecting any county final hangover at this stage. Plus both clubs I would argue have grown stronger with good young players developed and older experienced heads available and fully fit.
Armagh teams have done next nothing in a decade bar Clann Eireann getting a decent run in 2024. If Killeavy win they'll not sober up in time for Ulster, Cross will celebrate hard if they win given it's been a long time by their standards, the current bunch hasn't much experience in Ulster but the ability is definitely there for a good crack at it

They won their first match and lost the next one. Is that a "run"?

What do you count as a decent run out of interest?

Were they not beat in a final or semi final maybe was it? Definitely won a game or 2 and came very close against a very good EC team. Anyway, my point is that's our best showing since Cross won it in about 2015, which really isn't saying much. Think Clann Eireann had a win in 2021 and then were well beaten as well, other than that I don't think we won a game.

Suppose no team would turn an Ulster SF down at the start of the year

Clann Éireann came back to beat Creggan in 2021 before losing heavily to Derrygonnelly.

They beat Newbridge in 2024 before losing narrowly to Errigal having been reduced to 14 men.

Considering it can take 3 games to win the Ulster Club championship, I'd say even a single win counts as a run.

Armagh18

Rather than define what a run is, we'll just say those 2 years were the only time an Armagh club has won any games in Ulster since Cross in 2015

pretty sure cross beat Coalisland in ulster in the not too distant past. Hanratty and Hampsey sent off. Myabe McKernan also. Were then beaten by Gaoth Dobhair in the semi final. Rian sent off for an elbow on McGee. 2018 I think?

Yeah that was 2018. Clontibret beat us the following year in Armagh in the first round. 2022 Ballybay beat us in the prelim round then the following year Trillick beat us after a dreadful performance. Will never forget it as i was down in the Manor House Hotel surrounded by ones supporting Trillick!!!
