Norway - Louth. ( Louth, finally a flair team)

France - Kerry. (sort of a 'Je ne sais quoi.' about Kerry football)

Japan - Tyrone.    (no explanation needed)

Cape Verde - Cork   ( brave heroic skillful but ultimately.   ....)

Argentina - Monaghan. (after all,  it's my choice)

Scotland - Ros. Early exit but not before partying well. Decent team late 70s and good memories of hammering Netherlands.
USA - Louth. When did they get so good?
France - Kerry. Deschamps is the French Jack O'Connor
Argentina - Tyrone. One used to have scruffy hair, the other scruffy beards. Cynical, bad ass but skillful.
Brazil - Galway. Reputation built on past glories but critics always rate them
Croatia - Monaghan Just when you thought some auld lads were no longer top 8
Dublin - yeah Germany, can now be beaten by a minnow but still take out a top team
Portugal - Cork. A few lads up front with no pace but dangerous if given space

That was a final. Scotland were never in a final - lazy unthought out comparison.

I was thinking  more that Scotland usually find  bizarre ways to lose (or not qualify) , like Mayo.

It's not a great comparison I grant you , but it  was on past my bedtime

I presume you are predominantly referring to Mayo v Dublin games where Dublin in every instance had the better bench coming on. I seen it as more Dublin having the superior squad and pulling away with fresher legs.

There was never a time coming into the final minutes of those games where Dublin were trying to reel in a Mayo lead.

Mayo struggled to get to finals and semi-finals those years. Dublin strolled through Leinster and all the rest.

Those days are well behind Mayo and today's group can only dream of being as competitive. They'll win or lose by small margins on the day against average sides as all average sides do.
