HTF do Chelsea get away with what they do?

They more or less pay huge money for lads and amortise it over long contracts and then shift them on after a year or two.

There must be some giggery pokery going on there.

Aside from that they were criticised for having no experience and boy have they went the other way on that one, Henderson, who's well past his best and Welbeck thrown in there.

Who to hell knows if Chelsea will mount a challenge or not!

They really took the piss when they sold their women's team to themselves in 2024 for almost £200m,significantly contributing to a profit of £128.4m in that year's accounts.

How have Citeh managed to get 85m for Savinho.  He signed for them for about 20m and has been mostly useless (or not picked).

The only way of really competing in the CL is to be in it every year and improve on the last outing, gaining experience along the way, they are in it now and will get that under their belt but they are way way off the mark in terms of the bigger 10 or so teams above them..

Coming out early allows the team to refocus on the league again and get back at it again the following season.. Utd are (if they continue to improve) a good 4 or 5 years away from being consistent/contesting in the CL should they be in it every year.

The priority for a club like Utd is the domestic league
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

I'm struggling with this one myself.

Spurs is where talented-but-clearly-missing-something wingers go for a payday before heading down the leagues and fizzling out completely. He fits the bill perfectly. Except Spurs usually pick those types up for a 7 figure fee from Europe. This is all risk, no return for the club.

Man Utd would do well to go out of the extended league format in Champions League before the knockout stage.
Savinho looks very overpriced as does Anderson at Man City.
Arsenal still lack a goalscorer to dig them out of a hole and draws may cost them this season.
Haaland could win it on his own for Man City as the only consistent scorer in the league.
No idea who will win it.
Hopefully a sensible application of the rules by refs, grappling at corners may be ugly to some but constant frees, VAR reviews and refs telling people not to touch each other isn't any more attractive.

Arsenal are clear favourites in my eyes. Improved the defence further, midfield and Tzolis looks to be better option than Martinelli and Trossard.

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with Manchester City to sign winger Savinho for £75m, with a further £10m in potential add-ons.

Savinho, 22, has been given permission to undergo a medical in north London before signing a long-term deal with Spurs.

Spurs have been working on a stunning double deal to sign Savinho and his Manchester City team-mate Omar Marmoush which could cost in the region of £140m.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi last month promised Spurs fans a "bomba" signing to round off the transfer window. Having already smashed the club's transfer record by spending £100m on Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United this summer, Spurs are still looking to do big business before the transfer window shuts.

While the Savinho deal looks to be over the line, it is not clear whether City are prepared to sell Marmoush, but Spurs are hoping to do a deal for both. Spurs have been tracking winger Savinho since last summer, but Marmoush has been added to the club's targets with De Zerbi wanting more attacking talent to choose from.

Savinho was not in City's squad for the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal, while Marmoush was used as a 53rd-minute substitute. The Egyptian is thought to be on close to £300,000 a week at City, which would make the deal incredibly expensive for Spurs.

Marmoush scored three Premier League goals last season, but spent most of his time as first reserve to Erling Haaland. Savinho has scored two League goals over the course of the last two seasons at City.

In addition to Tonali, Spurs have spent £85m on midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer as well as signing Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson.

But De Zerbi made it clear that he wanted more at the end of last month by saying: "The transfer market, it's not finished for sure. We have completed 60 per cent of our project in the transfer market. Now we have another bomba."

De Zerbi added: "In the transfer market, when I want one player, I become like a shark. No chance to say no. I love working in the transfer market. It's not pressure, it's one of the nicest parts of my work, my job."

How the the feck are Spurs affording this. Be interesting to see how it goes for them, all seem good enough players they're buying but have seen before throwing big money around can be disastrous, and if someone on 300k a week flops it can be impossible to get rid

Trossard got ripped for pace a few times in CL final against Hakimi, this fella is notably quicker and looks hungry, seriously 2 footed, great signing
