In one of these finals (they all blur into one) Gavin played a very poor forward line for Dublin when they had much better on the bench. I still believe no 5 in a row for Dublin if Mayo had played them at an earlier stage. At that stage if a team were on a reasonably even keel with Mayo in a final they would have beat them.

I don't think Mayo have a chance of back to back. Kerry will be sore next year and will be all out. Also while they shouldn't have won that match but they definitely could have and I would say that will fuel them on a bit too.

Dublin were inherently unbeatable at the time. By 2015 they were either beating Mayo in the final or the Semi Final. And along the way Dublin would almost inevitably have one particular challange with Kerry or Donegal. Laying glove on Dublin became very difficult and Mayo were the closest.

Kerry will be looking to end the famine next year. But it will be another open championship with the new format increasing the chances of heavy weights knocking each other out sooner than expected, clearing the path for others.

There are a number of teams not that different in calibre, the draw can catch you out and the compressed season can mean that injuries can just make the difference.
Paddy Power have 7 teams at 10/1 or less for next year; Kerry, Donegal, Mayo, Armagh, Dublin, Tyrone, Galway.

Of course, things may look different next June.

Delighted for Mayo people. Don't think it's an exaggeration to say this is life changing, in terms of how they feel about themselves and the injection of pride it will give.  It is Mayo's 4th All-Ireland but it might as well be the first for the vast majority of their support.  Like many others I'd given up on Mayo after 2021, and to put it bluntly didn't want to see them back in a final again. Easy to understand how any of their older supporters lost the will in recent years - there's just so many losses anyone can take. I remember being at the final against Donegal and thinking how passive and resigned the supporters seemed to be to defeat from early on.  But the resilience of the players and the supporters to bounce back was always admirable. It could have been the undoing of many counties, setting them back a generation or two.  To keep coming back and back and to get to so many AI finals over the past 20-30 years is remarkable really.  Only Kerry or Dublin were in more? They will know they should have won a few of those. Mindset and poor decision making rather than lack of ability was probably a factor in a few of those finals (maybe the 'curse' got into players' heads after a while). A lack of enough top tier clinical forwards cost them too.  But on Sunday it was plain to be seen that this batch of players were going to grab their chance and go for it with no regrets.  Croke Park on AI final day is built for teams that play with no fear.  Mayo typified this by their willingness to take players on.  There were times when the obvious simple pop pass to the man running off the shoulder was on, but the man in possession drove on to create more danger, which would have unsettled Kerry (and any team) greatly. This was exemplified even in the very last play when the natural instinct would have been to just play the safe handpass to the nearest man, recycling the ball to eat down the clock.  A Mayo player had the ball, the pass was on but checked back and moved it forward to Kobe, who again drove at the Kerry defence to set up the final score.  Awesome stuff.  Any supporter in any county would love their team to play like this.

Looks like the team is at the start of a journey rather than the end.  It's usually the case that a team with such a young age profile will be at the business end of things for the next few years if they want it.  Mayo abu!

David Clifford 28 championship debut 2018.

Paudie Clifford 29 debut 2020.

Diarmuid O'Connor 28 debut 2019

Sean O'Shea 29 debut 2018

Mark O'Shea 29 debut 2025

Gavin White 30 debut 2018

Mike Breen 29 debut 2021

Graham O'Sullivan 29 debut 2019

Jason Foley 31 debut 2019

Paul Murphy 35 debut 2014

All in their late 20s early 30s with a lot of mileage in the legs.  Mayo have showed what youth and freshness did and Kerry if still managed by Jack O'Connor will need to freshen things up starting a few of U20 All-Ireland winners in 2027.

Two All-Irelands is no bad return for most counties, but given it's Kerry and with all the underage success they had for a few years there, the likes of David Clifford and Seanie O'Shea might have hoped for another AI or two by this point.

28 or 29 isn't old ffs.

Loads more in all of those boys and bar Murphy would expect them all to finish up with about 3 more.

While I'm yet to be won over  by the new format , the  fact that a few  of big hitters  (Donegal, Armagh, Galway etc)  went out early enough this year  , due to quick turnaround,  injuries, away fixture etc , made  it  more likely that another team can  come through the side door with a more  favourable draw. In this case , Mayo (and Louth).

Different semi finalists,  finalists and ultimately new/newish winners  can only be a very good  thing for the game.

Apart from the recent finals there were some crazy and insane near misses when it came to players

Dermot Earley's father got a teaching job one mile over the Roscommon border in Gortaghanny-Demot himself was born in Castlebar

Jimmy Duggan of Galway was living in Claremorris and was overlooked for the Mayo minors....Galway then swooped in

When Mayo finally beat Galway in the 1960s they had a semi final lined up against Meath. Of course their best player came down with appendicitis and couldn't play (Garda John Morley)

Ted Webb-the Kobe of his day....killed by a freight train operating off schedule

Padraig Brogan and Gerry Geraghty from the 1983 team

Anyone catch footage of McBriens(?) hit on Clifford.

Some boos for the Coyne hit so maybe they didnt want another on big screen?

Add in the mileage in legs. In what is sure to remain very open championship in the years ahead and All-Ireland titles spread out among counties I would think one more will be won by Kerry and for anymore it will require the help of youth and freshness.

Would be some laugh if Mayo went back to back.

Meath will surely encouraged by this year. Definite dark horse contender.

seafoid

They should be able to win one more.
They have a lot of talent and a good manager.

I wonder how Meath will get on.
