Seemed like Roscommon were living on scraps in that first 20 minutes, think it was nearly the 25th minute before they hit their second point and considering they scored 25 points I can't recall too many 2 pointers either so really doesn't reflect well on Mayo. Haven't seen the stats but seemed like Roscommon totally dominated the kickouts the 2nd half. There'll probably be one big win in Mayo this summer as there has been the last 5 years but couldn't see why the bookies had them 3rd favorite's, its pretty much the same group of players who've done nothing since their last All Ireland appearance.

Roscommon were outstanding and rightly so majority of the pundits will tip them to beat Galway, I'd like to think they won't dominate the kickouts the next day and won't have the freedom of the park to kick scores for fun either.

Lets see what Galway turn up, if Tierney is out he's a big loss. One of Galways best players in the league and always a great outlet for the kickouts. Interesting to se what he does with Enda Smith as Kieran Molloy who's marked him so often surely has to be out of favour after a really poor league.

It was a nervey start for us, took a long time to settle but we had already turned screw before H/T. Mayo had a 6 point lead that we reduced to two. Kobe got a late point that put Mayo 3 up, but overall we finished that half stronger. Many Mayo people blaming the goalie but Moran played a good few players short of match fitness. There were a few commentators in the media questioning why Dowd did not have some top Brigids players on 26 and even doing a bit of muckraking. But those players had little to no county football all year because of injury/needed break after club and under new rules, on a warm day, faster ground, you'll get badly exposed for pace. That I thought was Mayo's bigger problem and a month of hard training, let them play with clubs, could do wonders. Galway will be a different kettle of fish, much better structured team.

Pj said after the game at the weekend that Tierney and Thompson are both out of the final whereas Cian Hernon should be okay.
Molloy picked up Smith in the '22 Connacht final. His form since that season has been terrible really to be blunt about it. On all known form he will do well the make the 26 at all.
Maher did well on him in '23 in Hyde Park as did Mulkerrin last year.
He is such a key player for Ros.
Not sure what the story is with Johnny McGrath - heard a rumour of broken ribs but no idea if that's accurate or not.
You'd imagine Hernon, Kelly and Glynn will all start the next day.

I remember Mulkerrin getting plaudits for spoiling Smith in last year's game. He's probably most likely again. That game was never a contest though so you couldn't count on it

Smiths such an incredible player though. Obviously he gets lots of plaudits but I actually still think he's a bit underrated. Is there a half forward / midfielder that scores goals at the rate he does in the game? I think he's probably ahead of everyone in that regard. If you count him as a midfielder then the only players who get near him in the scoring stakes in recent times are Conroy and Fenton. Odhran Murdock troubles the scoreboard heavily too tbf but he's very young yet

The motivation angle is interesting. Obviously it's a huge deal for Roscommon. I kinda think it'll be a big deal for Galway also given the 5 in a row angle, but at the same time you can't be certain. Winning it doesn't matter a jot for the All Ireland series and the team came out flat as a pancake v Dublin last year two weeks after winning Connacht

Terrific game. With the wind in he second half you'd have to fancy Roscommon as big favourites unless Galway really turn it up. Kieran Molloy fancying himself for and then nailing a two pointer tells you just how strong the breeze really is. I thought Roscommon were maybe being a bit guilty of overdoing things when all they needed to do was tack on points when they could and then bang, two goals in the space of a minute or so.

Fair play to Anthony Finnerty scoring a great goal like that at his age.
