"When we bring in better players".

FFS.

You should have finished your moan with a complaint that City and Chelsea have ruined football, just to make it absolutely clear that you have detached from reality.

As for your "Rooney was done 3 years ago" statement. f**k me. The summer RVP was signed, Rooney had scored 27 league goals the season before. Done? Really? Catch a grip.

I don't care how many goals Rooney scored in 2011/12, Fergie replaced him as our main centre forward because he wasn't the same player which has been backed up by his performances since and the goals RVP scored to win the title.

Imagine this board in January 1990 after the money Fergie had spent and it looked like he was going nowhere after over 3 years in charge.

LVG inherited a back 4 of Rafa, Rio, Vidic & Evra who all had to replaced and he's been extremely unlucky that he didn't have one decent centre forward after buying Falcao and inheriting RVP & Rooney; All three are well passed their best when in theory they should be at their peak.

LVG is 3 months into his second season, he's done well to change the squad around without spending a fortune. He's turned Smallings career around, he's turned Valencia into a good right back who's very underrated by our support, Young has been excellent in the last 15 months whilst Fellaini is now a good sub to change a game.

Liverpool have spent a fortune trying to win the league since 1990 and failed miserably and are still a million mile short. We've a very good manager with a track record in success, his bosses will be delighted with his progress so far; He's managed to get rid of the deadwood and has improved the squad whilst reducing the age of it too whilst not spending as much as is available.

The football is poor to watch but it wasn't great under Fergie until about 5 years into his reign.

Hasn't spent a fortune?? He's spent £200million!

How much drink do you take in the average morning? Even withstanding the quite brilliant denial about united's spending:

Rooney was outstanding the season before RVP arrived. The problem was that not one other United player hit double figures for the season, and as a result, they lost out on the league on goal difference. The best finisher in the league was available for a sensible fee, and Rooney was versatile enough to accommodate a new role, so it was a win-win for Fergie. And it proved that way too.

Maroon Manc

United's biggest game of 2012/13 was at home to Real Madrid, Rooney was dropped for it.  He was no longer the most important player in the team, far from it. Fergie wasn't bothered Rooney was running down his contract.

LVG has spent a lot of money but at the same time has totally changed the squad, improved it and brought down the average age whilst getting rid of most of the big earners at the club and bringing in nearly £100m in transfer fee's.

If this time next year the football is crap and United are on about the same points then I'll be moaning but given what he had to do to the squad I'm prepared to give him time to get it right. He's done a lot of good work the last 15 months, if he was to leave today a new manager would find a squad in a lot better place than it was when Fergie & Moyes left.

This is the bit I don't get.
If you want to argue the above in defence of LVG that's fine,(incidentally the signing of Anthony Martial, the most expensive teenager of all time, took Van Gaal's expenditure to £258.7m – almost four times the amount spent by David Moyes)
but then you cant argue in another post

No he didn't

Technically he did at the time he agreed to take over in May 2014, However, Vidic and Rio were gone by the time he was officially installed after the Dutch were knocked out of the World Cup. Evra was shipped out a week later

Roughly £44m of which was from selling a player LVG bought for £59m!!

It's all about the net spend!
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

Agree on Evra, LVG should have tried harder to keep him. The only other player I'd have kept was Wellbeck, he shouldn't have been sold.

From the team that played Real Madrid in March 2013 only Carrick & De Gea remain. it doesn't take a genius to work out its going to cost a huge sum of money to put that right.

It was a huge rebuilding process that probably won't be complete until the start if next season.

Vidic and Rio had already decided to go by then and in any case this was hardly their first choice back 4. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling played more than those 2.
