Anyone have any idea what an assistant coach would recoup in 'expenses' for being a right-hand-man?

Depends on who he's right hand man to doesn't it and the size of the back the expenses are coming off.

I'd say £500 would be plenty.

It wasn't the easiest experience as I'm sure you can appreciate, but once it became obvious that Mayo were in a different class I just sat back & tried to enjoy it best I could. Mayo were just fabulous from 1 - 15 & they have obviously come a long way since last year.
I was also glad to see McGuinness & Horan shaking hands afterwards & Horan's generous comments were welcome. Donegal & Mayo as counties have too much in common for there to be bad feeling.
Less welcome was McGee's stamp, which was a disgrace, no other words for it. It is bad enough to get a beating but the least a player should be able to do is take it like a man.

Welcome back BSB. No shame in getting beat last week. Ye have two Anglo Celts and Sam over the last two years, a massive, massive achievement.

With such a small squad Jim McGuinness has been trying to juggle squads between injury, rest and form all year. This has proven to big a task. The last week before the Mayo game showed signs of desperation and Jimmy was grasping at straws trying to keep things afloat. We often forget he is a young Manager and he had to deal with different pressure this year. He will have learned allot last week. Many comments from himself and Rory were personal and insinuated many things. Their comments seemed to have the opposite effect on Mayo!

At the end of the game he closed things out well with a handshake and (what seemed Like) decent comments to Horan. His after game comments were gracious and he closed the season out in a dignified manner.

Last year he had a Title to win with fresh players, this year he had a title to retain with tired players. The sell was always going to be harder.

Donegal can take a rest from the Roller coaster that has lasted nearly two years. They will come back a fresher group in the spring. Being in Division Two will give them room to blood new players, try systems and rest injured/older players.

Catch and Kick

Given the small squad Donegal were operating from and post the All Ireland win where the decision to omit Cassidy was seen as an incredible managerial act of genius, is it possible that the All Ireland would have been won anyway but the panel would have been all the stronger to survive the injury toll of the season just gone?

We'll never know Catch & Kick. The dynamics of the dressing room are known only to the people involved & speculating on what might have happened is useless. Yes, he would have been an asset but there were so many off the pace I don't think it would have made an appreciable difference.

Welcome back BluestackBoy. I thought u were away trying to get some media training for Jimmy.  :P
So what's the word inDonegal will Jimmy stay on? I'm hearing his wife is expecting twins which will leave him with 5 kids under 5?! He must be on some coin with Donegal and/or Celtic to be able to manage all that.
Anyway I'll not gloat. I'm sure it was a horrendous match to watch. And now the media backlash led by yesterday's Sunday world can't make pleasant reading.

Was there genuine bad blood between the pair of them after last year's defeat and the mind games of this year or was it more for show than anything else ?

You seem to imply that it was for real ?.

Rory Gallagher's references to "collusion" & James Horan's reference to "Mr McGuinness" seemed to indicate an edge between the camps. I don't think it was a big deal but others were making it out to be a problem and it was good to see it being put to bed.
Are we now agreed that collusion, in this case, was indeed an illusion?

I didnt see it but heard about it, Roy Curtis wrote a stinging article calling Jimmy a fraud, a spin doctor, the mask has slipped, something along those lines. Curtis would be a tabloid journo who is well known for slinging mud when people are down.

Cheers ck. I don't know what McGuinness's plans are, yes they are expecting twins but rumour has it that he is on £100,000+ a year with Celtic so he wouldn't be struggling. As for the Sunday World I haven't read it in 40 years & nobody is talking about the article so I don't think Jim will worry too much about it.
I'd say they will all have a bit of a blow out & then get together and see how the land lies. If Jim thinks the hunger is there he wil  stay as he wouldn't like to finish on that note.

I wonder will the Donegal team be interested in the meteorites today, that briefly shine brightly and then fall to earth, spent.

We are in the process of building our planetarium - thanks for giving us the plans by the way.
