I'd say he's another muppet who uses the term 'northern ireland'.

Well if reports on Saturday were to be believed not anymore.

To give the man his due he is actually usually pretty decent on the law and legal principles. Any time I've seen him in Court he has more than held his own.

Forcing it down would mean accepting the consequences that every contentious parade will be objected to by every residents' group, including some of the most high profile ones.

If true, Bryant must be wondering what the f**k he's done to deserve this a couple of months into his tenure.

He would also have to undermine PSNI who have concluded for 60+ hours so far that forcing it down simply isn't safe.

Quote from: Armagh18 on September 29, 2026, 09:55:20 PM"Illegal protest? its maybe not so illegal.

Article 11 of the European Convention on Human Rights protects a spontaneous peaceful assembly even where it does not comply with domestic notification requirements, particularly where the assembly is a genuine immediate response to an unfolding/current event, which it was, an interpretation is that its unlawful but thats not established and ECHR protects it apparently"

Seen this online, not that I or anyone else with half a brain give 2 fucks about British law but protest is apparently legal?

Yeah I mentioned this above. It's hard to tell. It's a case called Ziegler and requires a fact specific analysis of the protest.
QuoteThe A4 flyer handed out by the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) to motorists heading toward Portadown contained the following key points:
Recognition of protest rights: Acknowledged that individuals may wish to protest the Orange Order procession, affirming their right to express differing views and engage in peaceful protest.
Facilitation and temporary dialogue: Stated that police would seek to facilitate peaceful protests where possible and, where safe and appropriate, might initially allow a brief period for peaceful protest and dialogue if people were on the road or route.
Strict restriction on obstruction: Explicitly noted that this initial allowance did not constitute permission to obstruct or block the route or the procession.
Legal warnings: Reminded recipients that obstructing traffic or preventing a lawful public procession constitutes an illegal act.

What do you think of that David?

As I say it's not a simple question.

Whether a protest is legal/illegal will depend on a fact specific analysis which includes consideration of at least the following.

* whether the protest was peaceful;
* whether there was violence or any risk of disorder;
* the extent and duration of the obstruction;
* whether the obstruction was deliberate;
* the actual consequences for other road users;
* the location of the protest;
* whether the protest was targeted at the object of the demonstration;
* whether other offences were committed;
* the conduct of the protesters; and
* the circumstances in which the authorities intervened.

So until that happens it's largely impossible to know

The Boy Wonder

Jamie Bryson's so-called culture war has got it's answer this week. His successful challenge to the Parades Commission has rebounded and united every strand of Nationalism across Ireland.

A thought:

DUP being lead by Jamie Bryson is a really bad for unionism or maybe it's ok. I don't know what to think.

I can't see Bryson being the brains behind this, unless he's done a keyezer soze level of deception and acted the clown prior.

I've been of this same opinion lately. Up until last week he had been a serial looser at everything he touched. Now all this craic about how he pulled one over on Nationalists. Someone else is pulling the strings and Jamie is just a puppet. Long overdue journalists started digging deeper into his affairs and where the money for all these legal challenges is coming from. It all stinks to the high heaven's.

There is no logic on this earth for these two words to be in the same sentence.
