Clones 2.30pm: Fermanagh v Mayo

Fermanagh are the only team in either section of the top flight yet to take a point, while Mayo, notorious for starting well before running out of steam, appear to have new-found mettle under John O'Mahony.

Mayo fans have received some bad news this week when they learned that star midfielder Ronan McGarrity has been diagnosed with testicular cancer and is set to undergo treatment.

The Ballina clubman broke the news to manager John O'Mahony and a stunned Western County panel last week.

He has pulled out of the squad for the foreseeable future but there are hopes for a return to action at some stage during the championship.

The thoughts of the county will be with McGarrity as he hopes to overcome his ailment and make a speedy recovery to the intercounty scene.

Meanwhile, O'Mahony will be unable to select injured duo David Brady and Kevin O'Neill, while Aidan Campbell and Enda Devenney are also concerns ahead of the game after picking up knocks during the past week.

The Westerners have taken the spoils against Kerry and Limerick but fell to high-flying Donegal.

Though Fermanagh have failed to secure any points so far and appear to be struggling at their 'home-from home' (Clones or Kingspan Breffni Park) while Brewster Park in Enniskillen is being refurbished, though could push injury-stricken Mayo hard on Sunday, especially if the game is greeted with poor weather conditions.

The Ernesiders are a better side than they've shown so far this year and dropping to Division 3 for the 2008 campaign will be a very real possibility if they lose again this weekend.

It should be a close encounter at St Tiernach's Park, but Mayo have enough momentum and quality in reserve, to take the points despite their injuries.

VERDICT: Mayo.

I'm not at all surprised we are Favourites!

Gold

any Boho St Fabers players make the fermanagh team for the game ?
"Cheeky Charlie McKenna..."

FermPundit

nope, but its only a matter of time!! Only one change on the Fermanagh team with Tinney coming into goals for the suspended Chrissy Breen.
We'll win Ulster some day, not sure when.

ExiledGael

From the team that lost to Kerry Shane McDermott comes in for Paul Johnston, much needed strength he brings, probably with Ger Brady in mind, Mark Murphy comes in at full-forward and Mark Little at wing-half, Tom Brewster drops to the bench. Tinney in for Breen as well. Thats the one position we have a luxury of riches in, with the Queen's keeper from the Sierson not fit to get near the team.
It's time we took some points

FermPundit

yeah, 2 points are essential to not only fight off relegation but to also lift the team's confidence
We'll win Ulster some day, not sure when.

Redgreenery

What is the named Fermanagh team for Sunday?

FermPundit

N Tinney, N Bogue, B Owens, S Goan, S McDermott, S Lyons, P Sherry, M McGrath, J Sherry, M Little, S Doherty, E Maguire, C McElroy, M Murphy, C O'Reilly

Happy enough with the team selection. I just hope the lads play to their full potential this Sunday.
We'll win Ulster some day, not sure when.

Where is bradley this weather?
Excuse me for talking while you're trying to interrupt me

Gold

Bradley is concentrating on club football.

His transfer has just gone through and he is now giving his all to Boho St Fabers
"Cheeky Charlie McKenna..."

FermPundit

Colm Bradley is still in the squad but his form has suffered over the last few months due to injury. On his day he's probably one of the best forwards he have. If he could get back to the form of 2004 it would be a great boost to the under performing Fermanagh forward line.

We'll win Ulster some day, not sure when.

FermPundit

Bradley is a committed Gaels man!!

We'll win Ulster some day, not sure when.

there will be deferred full coverage of the game on tg4 on sunday after the armagh v derry game.
Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.

Redgreenery

Probably still in the car on the way back at that time unfortunetly!

ildanach

me too, but sure you can set the video or sky plus it, to watch it when you get home.

Ya normally would do that if it is on tv when we have a long enough journey back!!
