Has anyone seen it first-hand?  Is there anything on the back?  Club Tyrone logo perhaps?

Its a new beginning for Tyrone football and a sight to put the fear of God himself into every 3-in-a-row seeking Kerryman.  Expect a few more winter retirements from the kingdom as Tyrone get dressed for their third all Ireland.  What chances we overtake Downs roll of honour  in the next 5 years?  Lets go!!!!

Trueblue

They have to be the 3 ugliest models I have ever seen. Who's idea was it to have Pascal there. He's no oil painting. They should have had Ricey's toothless snark. That really would have scared people off buying it.

A new letter to Santa?

The hottest sports fashion accessory of the year is set to hit the shops just in time for the Christmas rush - the new Tyrone county GAA jersey.

Exclusively unveiled on the front page of today's Chronicle, the top will be officially launched this afternoon (Thursday) in O'Neill's Factory Store in Strabane and is certain to be take pole position in many a child's letter to be penned to Santa in the coming days and weeks.

O'Neill's managing director Kieran Kennedy said that they were delighted with the bold new design which is based on the theme of going 'back to the future'.

"We are very happy with the end result and hopefully Tyrone supporters will feel the same way about it. There was a couple of months work involved trying to get it together from prototype to end product but we're very pleased with how its turned out.

"It's simple but it's modern. There's a retro touch to it as well in that we have gone back to features of the '89 jersey and incorporated them into it, which hopefully will prove popular.

"Everyone involved was keen to take it back to the look of the original Tyrone jersey. The brief we had was to emphasis the unique white top that had always been associated with the County and that's what we have tried to do."

"A lot of thought went into the basic need to reflect the Tyrone GAA," Kieran explained.

"White-with-a-red trim was non-negotiable: if it's the Tyrone shirt, that's what is has to be. The Tyrone County crest is another fixed item: you can't have a County shirt without it. Other things that were looked at included the original Hugh O'Neill crest- very appropriate at the 400th anniversary of the Flight of the Earls- and the desirability of getting 'The O'Neill County' strap-line in there somewhere."

O'Neill's liaised with the Tyrone County Committee and Club Tyrone to draw up the concept for the new jersey, adopting features of former Red Hand tops to blend in with modern designs and so produce an innovative product.

"It took around eight weeks from the original concept of what we were looking for though we made around twenty samples before we were in a position to proceed," added Mr Kennedy.

"It was imperative that we got it right and that was why we ran off so many samples. There was various market research carried out, and focus groups involved, taking the views of clubs, children, teenagers, supporters, Tyrone GAA fundraiser and sponsors, as it progressed to see if there were features of it they liked or didn't like. We took different opinions and comments on board as part of the process as we moved forward."

"Some of the feedback was intriguing. For example people didn't like 'collar-less' shirts; the Hugh O'Neill crest was thought to resemble a 'Poland World Cup' crest; fitted sleeve ends were popular; people wanted an 'away' shirt that reversed the home one; and the idea of s specific Tyrone goalkeeper's jersey went down well."

Out of all that came the end product and naturally Kieran is hoping that the new brand will prove a smash hit with Red Hand fans approaching the festive period.

"With the sponsor having been confirmed, it's an ideal opportunity for us now to launch the new jersey coming up to Christmas and we'd like to think it will prove very popular.

"It's a big thing for us at O'Neill's because we are based here in the County. Tyrone have enjoyed All-Ireland success with their last two jerseys so let's hope it will be the same again with this new jersey."

The Tyrone senior team are set to don their new jersey for the first time at Healy Park in Omagh when they entertain University of Ulster Jordanstown in the Gaelic Life McKenna Cup on Sunday January 6.

It's also expected that Pomeroy based company Rocwell Mineral Water will announce this afternoon that they are to renew their sponsorship of the various Tyrone teams for a further three years, after enjoying a successful stint as the primary backers of the County going back to their initial involvement in May 2004. The highlight of course of their first three-year deal was seeing Brian Dooher captain Tyrone to the Sam Maguire crown in 2005.
