Chairman sents out warning
16 November 2008

The Chairman of the Fr Rocks club in Cookstown, Damien Harvey has stressed that the arson attack on their clubhouse last weekend will not break their spirit.

Following the incident that occurred last Saturday night, there has been calls from politicians on both sides of the divide to stop the craziness that has occurred recently as a number of GAA clubs and Orange Order facilities were targeted.

However, Harvey admitted that the arson attack on the club came as a great shock, but he was adamant that the club would grow even stronger following the incident.

'It came as a total surprise to us. It was the first time that the club has been targeted. But they can destroy a building but they cannot destroy our spirit,' said Harvey. 'We thought we had taken the necessary safety precautions. But there will always be people determined to wreak havoc.'

You've made some good points re killyman and their situation Fionntamhnach. There was a lot of (shit) talk after they won the championship last year that they weren't looking to play in div 1. this was bullshit and didn't come from anyone in killyman.

people forget that the year before last, killyman were pushing to win div 2 and were joint  favourites , (maybe slight underdogs)to beat stewartstown in the champ semi final.a trip to toronto maybe came at the wrong time for killyman and stewartstown deservedly won that clash. They won ulster and got to the AIF and are pushing the top sides in div 2 this year.

A bad run of injuries, suspensions, men missing etc meant killyman didn't play one league game the next year with their "1st" fifteen. It just so happened that we were mostly able to field our best team for the championship, barring pete mcgahan after he done his acl in the first round. there was enough effort put into the league but just didn't get the breaks.

on another note, john feeney has fairly turned eglish around. two years ago eglish avoided relegation to div 3 by a playoff (i think). last year , under feeney, they won div 2 and have performed brilliantly in div 1 this year. as well organised, drilled etc etc a side as is about.havent got outstanding footballers but are a  great team.my vote for manager of the year  :o

Final Whistle

great game in the mountains today.

great performance from both teams but the moy pulled through when all seemed against them. the missing brian dooher would have had a major impact on the result of the game but I felt that this was a game that the moy were not going to leave behind them.

the two cavanaghs played a major part in proceedings with noteable performances from tomas mcnicholl (are you watching peter mcdonnell???), karol mcquaid, francis mcquaid and ryan o'neill.

mickey hughes was officiating..................... ::)
