What profits would Liverpool be making yearly?

Think their latest was £42m.

£29m last year, a lot less than global corporations availing of the scheme

£42m profit announced a few weeks ago
Ah right sorry, just had a quick google. A darn site less than a lot of companies using this scheme

Jeez lads, ye can't defend this. This is a complete pr disaster for liverpool. Jordon Henderson seems to be at the front of calls for players to do something to help front line workers then the club do something like this.
It goes against everything the city stands for. Just have a look at how quick the likes of Jamie carragher have come out to criticise this.

What would be the wage bill for 2/3 months, a few mill at most or am i way off?

The bad publicity outweighs any saving, tho no doubt other clubs will follow. And big corps too tho they will get to remain anonymous

Milltown Row2

No income coming in, no shirt sales or tv money, no bums on seats, this will hurt a lot of clubs, some clubs could go to the wall

Hello, hello...

What's been going on at snake mountain?

And you'll never furlough, alone
Furlough, Furlough, with hope, in your hearts
You'll never furlough, alone

manfromdelmonte must absolutely wet himself when he sees anything about Liverpool. What a sad little knob.

As always neutrals will slag off the club. In this instance though, it's a little pointless - would be like Liverpool fans slagging off the Glazers for one of their decisions. Club owners sometimes do stupid sh!t, nothing the fans can do about it.
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

To be fair that was pretty good...

From what I can see, Scouse (and all other clubs) don't currently have an income stream to cover these wages, and even if they did, these staff would not be allowed to work by the government.

This is for an indefinite period.

Furloughing them is the only sensible option.

There is nothing to see here.

Exactly, the scheme is open to every UK business

so the club can afford to pay players on average 100grand a week but can't pay Lisa in the canteen £300 a week?

With regard to players, they'd be in breach of contract to reduce their salaries without agreement. It's highly likely that such as contract breach could see the contract dismissed, entitling the player to leave for free (or in some cases, sue the balls of them). Therefore the logical approach here is to put indirect pressure on the players to approach the club about pay reduction or re-routing.

Everyone else at the club is in the same boat as every private sector employee in the UK who is currently unable to attend work due to government guidance.

Surely, surely, surely anyone can understand this?

Very respected journalist Henry Winter has expressed his displeasure on Twitter. This is a tough one 4 Liverpool to ride out.
