Why did other clubs stand back and let Southampton buy Virgil Van Dijk for an absolute steal....

A real mystery....

Clubs would rather buy cast offs from continental giants than shop in Scottish leagues, top 6 in England too up their own arse to realise plenty of talent in Scotland, thats been my view of the VVD transfer to Soton when it was blindingly obvious he was exactly what Utd Lpool Arsenal City and Spurs needed at the time. Shako and men like thats being bought for savage money at the same time and pure dort.

To be fair how many scottish players have failed in england at mid ranking clubs, never mind top 6. Danny Wilson ring any bells?

Kieran Tierney is the only decent player in that league at the moment. Lad kn loan from Liverpool Ryan Kemt seems to be doing alright

There were plenty on here saying he was overpriced.

The term "absolute steal" certainly wasn't being used.

Talking about his move to S'hampton...

What was the fee- £10m?

Thats an absolute steal.....

Edit, you're talking about him transfering from Celtic to Southampton and not from Southampton to Liverpool.

Sure Scottish football is shíte and there would have been a serious risk for any of the top teams to take him at that point in his career.

In fairness VVD was not ripping it up defensively for Celtic.  He was 24 when he moved to Southampton and still hadn't played for his country and had only made a handful of appearances at underage level internationally.  It really was when he went to Southampton that he pushed on.  For instance in comparison to Sakho when he was bought he had made around 170 appearances for PSG, was captain and had represented France numerous times and he was younger than VVD was when he joined Southampton.  There was only £5m of a difference  too between the fees.  When VVD joined Celtic he was the same age as Sakho was when he joined Liverpool and had played 100 games less.

VVD is coming to his peak and the purchase of him and Allison has shown a shift in the clubs transfer policy....ready made stars to go to the next level.  The club is at that stage now and can buy 2-3 players over 2 transfer windows just to freshen the squad and I really see that as the way to freshen and revitalize the squad season on season.

I rarely watch full games these days but caught most of Liverpool vs Bayern recently (and CL final last year) and if the dogshit football Liverpool are serving up is capable of winning the premier league or champions league then I'm glad I don't waste my time anymore.
Matip would find his level in the Beazer Homes league, Keita is an overpriced Jimmy Bullard and the front three don't look like they have a braincell between them and rely on running like headless chickens who occasionally get lucky.

You expect them to roll over the likes of wolves 5-1 or whatever with the amount they spend.

Poor performances from most apart from VVD and Fabinho. Terrible substitutions from Klopp

Derby games always hard to win when chasing titles. Utd were always good at winning them. But there will be plenty of twists and turns yet.

Been poor since Christmas lads, I never seen so many unnecessary 2nd touches. Subs where bad alright, what's the problem with shaq these days. Milner has been of form and lilana hasn't been the same player he was two years ago.
