Quote from: Brendan on August 27, 2025, 09:29:47 PMOgra Colmcille the only club Derry has lost in my lifetime

Younger than me obviously.
Tirgarvil, Littlebridge and Aghadowey in my lifetime.
And various Derry city outfits.

Thought Ogra were still trying to make a comeback.

There were 2 clubs in Tamnaherin at a stage, Slaughtmanus remain

Mullaghbouy the other. Me da loves telling me the time he won two Junior Championships and 8 Carnival Cups with them

Yes, I remember seeing Mullaghbouy results in the paper, never knew where it was. But I suppose that was in a time before they widened the Glenshane Pass and opened a whole new world for us.

There was also a John F Kennedy club about Claudy somewhere.

Mitchells in Belfast didn't seem to exist any more but now I see them in some south antrim fixtures so must have risen again.

Duine Inteacht Eile

McDermotts
O'Connells
Sean Martins
McCrackens
Dwyers (still a social club)
Clonard
Gaeil Uladh
Peadar O'Neill Crowleys
Seaghan an Diomais

A few Belfast ones.

Some boys older than me winning another Martin Cup recently!
None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought.

On a slightly different note Wolfe Tones in the Shore Rd/Greencastle/Bawnmore area of north Belfast were re-established a couple of years ago having folded in 1970.

There was 3rd club in Armagh City for a while in the 80s called Naomh Brid, not sure how long they played for, played in green & white hoops. Not sure if there was any connection to the Camogie team St Brigid's (still on the go). Brother in law played for them.

Quote from: thewobbler on August 28, 2025, 05:56:33 PMDerryleckagh is "no man's land" in Down. Anyone born near that playing field could be connected to Ballyholland, Burren, Saval or Mayobridge, by family lines or primary school. The Mitchels moving there was a non-starter.
One of my earliest memories is being at the Down Championship final in 1963; Sean O'Neill playing for Mitchells and Paddy Doherty for Ballykinlar. Mitchells won 4-2 to 1-10. I met Paddy Doherty after the game and to me it was like meeting Santa Claus.
Such a shame that both clubs have gone, but ther are many factors which contribute

There was a club called John Mitchel's, in Derrymore which is outside Aghagallon. There were a number of clubs in the Aghagallon area that came in and out of existence over the years, these eventually merged in the early 1980s to form the current St Mary's club. The Mitchel's club stands out as there is still a clubhouse and grounds in Derrymore called John Mitchel Park.

Glengar GAA went out of existance around 1980 , it represented the part of Doon Parish that is in Tipperary . Anyone from that area now plays with Cappawhite !

SCFC

In Laois, there's a load of clubs that don't exist anymore. Some of them just amalgamated. Cullohill and Durrow became The Harps. Park (football) and Ratheniska (hurling) just joined forces as a dual club, Park/Ratheniska.
Jamestown disappeared but O'Dempseys and Courtwood took their place. Vicarstown and Moyanna also joined as Annanough. Numerous clubs came and went in Portlaoise such as Kilminchy, Rovers and the hospital staff team, St Fintans.
Cappamore, Derrydavey, Cuddagh, Ballygeehan all won hurling titles and no longer exist.

Quote from: Armagh18 on August 28, 2025, 09:18:40 PMPhelim Bradys in Darkely just outside Keady Co Armagh had a team years ago, think they came back in the noughties but have died away again, suppose their catchmwnt would be caught by Keady/Granemore.

Played against them in 2014 I think it was for Cross Second's. Always struggled for numbers. A few clubs like that.

Some dodgy boys round them alright!  Good that they keep it going and the Martin Cup may as well be Sam to them....they lost their shit a few years back when we played a few 'ringers' in it for Wolfe Tones...

Yeah,  was involved with them for a few years when they reformed. Struggle with the fact they don't have their own fields and are relying on getting the Valley for games and training. They still keep showing up and will pull out a few decent results by the by

I see they have new GAA pitches in Mallusk. Will they use them?

They do use them already. Chatting last night and they didn't field for their recent championship match which has a direct impact on the groups as it will leave 3 teams on the same points so will impact scoring differences. Will see how that pans out
