I still think the arc should be a different colour.

Might slightly help referees etc.

Although easier for spectators to see on an elevated bank or stand etc. It's a lot harder at ground level obviously.

And also the fact that CD opted to go for 2 points rather than taking ball in as close as possible to level up the match shows a serious belief in himself. Is he one of the top 3 or 4 players in Derry? Personally I think so.
Glass, Rogers,CD, Mc Closkey in that order.

Interesting. Id probably put Shane at 3rd though. Then Clucky and honestly Id just about give Padraig McGroggan the nod over Doherty. But hes certainly in that top 5 ballpark at the moment

McGuigan is the best player in Derry. He's irreplaceable. Hoping McKinless can come back close to his best and he'll be right up there. I used to have McGrogan ahead of CD but not anymore. Partly due to McGrogan injury but also CD has improved a lot the past couple of years.

Quote from: GAACLG1884 on October 07, 2025, 04:19:53 PMOnly 3 Derry clubs availed of the GAA hurling start up packs. Faughanvale Magilligan and Castledawson the county could really do with a few more clubs introducing hurling.

Defintely, Ulster is lacking big time in the small ball

There's great potential for hurling to spring up across Derry. It's great to see the likes of Faughanvale and Magilligan availing of the hurling packs in particular, as bar the likes of Na Magha and Eoghan Rua, the vast majority of hurling is found in and around South Derry. Providing hurling in these areas, and ensuring as many people as possible, if not all, have the chance to play it, is the most important thing.

I personally think Derry is in a good position for growing hurling, as compared to other parts of Ulster, bar the obvious examples of Antrim and the Ards Peninsula, there is more of a hurling culture in Derry than say Tyrone, Armagh, or Fermanagh.

Derry clubs are typically quite strong in Ulster- and people will say this is perhaps due to the format and how it means a strong club can end up in a grade lower than they would be expected to be playing at, but it doesn't change the fact that all the clubs bar Slaughtneil and Na Magha are at a similar standard, and that standard is typically quite high for Ulster.

To the best of my knowledge, Derry Hurling does seem to be growing, with a couple other clubs offering hurling at underage, and the growth of St Finbarr's being great to see.

There's a lot of good work going on in Derry Hurling. And there's a lot of scope for it to grow a lot more in the coming years. Hopefully we see more clubs offering the small ball in the near future.

Another poster suggests SNeil have the best squad in Ulster - do most Derry people think that? There is a lot of quality teams in Derry never mind Ulster to suggest SNeil is the best was a surprise shout to me, to be honest.

I said the below 3 days ago

"I think Newbridge and Magherafelt will be battling it out for top spot, and others will move up the pecking order. I think Lavey (based on age profile) is the most likely to move Glen/Slaughtneil off a top 3 or 4 spot, then Steelstown or Dungiven.

Both Slaughtneil and Glen have 5 or 6 starters over 30, and the quality isn't there in their younger players to replace some of these icons.

They will still compete for sure, but it will be rebuilding for both of them. The circle of life.

If anyone thinks differently, provide some details, not wishful thinking. Let's get some debate going."

In summary, - Newbridge and Magherafelt are top 2 talented teams in Derry. Magherafelt are in the reserve final, as well as the senior and Newbridge reserves are strong too. As for what is coming in the next 3 years, the Magherafelt underage production line is stronger than Newbridge's.

Are Derry getting new jerseys this year? I'm surprised LCC haven't had their name on it yet

Well deserved alright, Bellaghy defending in second half was nothing short of heroic at times. Ballinderry really struggled up front.
Decent enough game but.

Don't think either team performed at their best, the rain at the start made handling difficult. Bellaghy deserved the win. I wouldn't have put them as favourite in QF or final but they did it when it mattered.

Thank f**k for that. Though always a possibility they'll outdo themselves.
