Quote from: Take the Mark on May 07, 2025, 10:37:55 PMSo in club games when time is up the ref just blows it no matter where the ball is?

Surely when time is up hes meant to wait until the ball goes dead then blow, otherwise its a completely different rule

Explain?

The rulebook says the ref blows for full time when the ball goes out of play after the time is up, tonight the head of referees in Antrim blew for half time when one side were on the attack.

Think you are mistaking intercounty and club.. there's no hooter to signal end of game to allow the ball to be played out to end it..

The ref just blows the whistle when time is up, regardless of where it is..

I've not seen that done anywhere tbf

I could be wrong but that's been my take on it and no one has questioned it

Oh, so the rules around time differ from county to club - I did not know that.

Yeah I think it's been primarily intercounty and only at grounds that have hooters.. there were games in some divisions that didn't have hooters so the game stopped as normal..

Hectic

It's a great rule for excitement when it's able to be implemented and 2 pts or less between sides at the end of a game.

SaffronSports

I think it's only in games that are live on tv which is a bullshit rule imo. Like when the FA Cup had VAR at Premier League grounds and not outside. Rules need to be consistent across the board.

Probably not many surprises in the games tonight.

Cargin have a very strong team out for this time of year. How many nailed on starters are missing?

Probably in around half a dozen. We will send the reserve team next time.

Have Kickhams Creggan emerged as championship contenders again after a few years in the wilderness?

imtommygunn

If you're saying that based on league form then you'd have to ask the same questions of Ballymena and St Galls too(who are ahead of them in the league).

No chance. It will be between St Galls and Cargin.

Emerged? Surely Creggan are always contenders. Along with Cargin and maybe PG1?
In the emerged category you'd have St.Galls due to good underage work and the Ulster select team Brigids due to their player recruitment policy.
Any others?

Spike

Will be interesting to see if Creggan are contenders, they didnt show up at all last year. The St Pauls and Ahoghill games don't add up to being soundly beaten by St Galls and Dunloy.

Don't think we can read too much into the league at this point. Every week the big guns are sending out half-teams and not taking it as seriously as we would like to see. Such is life in a 16 team Div 1.

While I wouldn't expect a mass (or much) travelling support, scheduling a full roster of club hurling matches at the same time as the county footballers being out isn't great.
