Quote from: gallsman on March 26, 2025, 03:52:52 PMHow many Christians do you walk past on a daily basis? How many churches? How many do you see on the news?

Now, how many radical Islamists do you think there are here?

I probably walk past more atheists than christians these days.

Did the whole sorry saga not begin with the pronoun bit? if not then tell us all the facts.

No not really. It started when the principal offered to discuss the matter at a time that wasn't at a public event and that wasn't considered good enough for Enoch. He got  so aggressive that others there had to intervene and hold him back. Anyone who thinks this is an acceptable way to speak to your boss is a bit of a knob.

He was not "sacked for refusing to use pronouns", despite what morons on twitter say. It never even got that far. The school may have been supportive and understanding of his views, we will never know...

That still sounds like the initial matter was about the pronouns and then everything else followed after?

It's clear that he was sacked for the stuff that followed after. I'm not defending him btw just trying to get the exact origin of the saga and how it all snowballed from there.

He hasn't been sacked.
He's still getting paid by the school.

why is the school still paying him?

well tell us the facts then as I obviously don't know them and start from the absolute beginning.

a timeline of it all would be appreciated.

a quick google search shows that he was indeed sacked, but is currently appealing the decision.

I'm always amazed how these "Christians" never seem to quote the new Testament.

I'd say the Jesus fella and his "love yer neighbour" would be far  too "woke" to the Burkes and their fellow travellers.

The smart alec remark above re. Jesus is despicable - Mods please take note.
I'm sure you would not be as quick to disrespect certain other religious leaders.

Talk about getting the wrong end of the  stick!!

Nah - your's was just a childish post that I allowed irritate me.

You have one good Roman Catholic attribute anyway – pontification.
No better man to preach on any and every subject – GAA rules, referenda, etc. – and scoff at those who might offer a different viewpoint.

Oh dear - I'm playing the man instead of the ball  ;D

Why is it that these same folk never seem to criticise or mock Radical Islamists?

Radical Islamism (is that a word) was not rammed down our throats by fundamentalist priests and brothers warning of hell and damnation. A bit of Jesus levity does no harm... Hope you haven't heard Billy Connolly's Last Supper skit!

You reckon they don't? I'd say if you think 1 form of religion is fictitious, there's a v good chance you think all are. Like, can someone believe in jesus christ and not in any other of the gods? All in or not surely...?

One of the most entertaining posters, Tony Fearon, was hounded off this Board some years ago.
His posts could be provocative, entertaining, hilarious at times but never boring.
Now I was not involved in the discussion the led to his leaving the board so cannot comment.

I mention the above because there is a tendency among some posters to put the boot in to the Catholic Church at every opportunity and they don't have Billy Connolly's talents to make decent skits.

There's talk of a receiver being appointed so they can start to get it back by garnishing his wages.

Bank of Ireland ordered to pay 40k of money from Burke's bank account to the court in 7 days.

Scary.

Cash is king folks.

Not really scary to be honest. I would have had sympathy at the start for him but he continues to rack up court fines by repeatedly breaking the court order, what do you expect?
If any of us behaved the way he did with our boss, you'd be suspended. If you continued to ignore the suspension day in day out the only outcome is court order. Repeatedly break that and of course this happens.
Scary in that the state can just take your money from your bank like that.

I still think he's 100% right but I wouldnt have had his stubbornness lol

quit yo jibbajabba

First time I ever saw Tony and hilarious in the same paragraph but everydays a school day

He deserves every bit of that money taken of him. If he has it he should be paying his fines.

Close the thread. Nothing will ever be more WTF that this.

FWIW, Anyone who lived and breathed Catholicism (or any religion for that matter) the way we did growing up in Ireland is unquestionably permitted to speak freely on the religion in question.

It wasn't because fearon was standing up for the Catholic Church it was where he was laying blame for abuse and bear in mind there is every chance there is someone here, or someone close to someone here, who has been impacted by that. He deserved the flak he got for what he said. He's no martyr just like it's misguided to think this Burke fella is.
