Imagine the position he puts the other teachers and those children at the school in too. The fella is a disgrace.

Plus when give strict instructions by the courts to not show up, he continues to go! Pity isn't the first thought that springs to mind
I hear you but as the old saying goes... show me the child to 11 and I'll show u the man (something like that)... he's brain washed

There's talk of a receiver being appointed so they can start to get it back by garnishing his wages.

Bank of Ireland ordered to pay 40k of money from Burke's bank account to the court in 7 days.

Scary.

Cash is king folks.

How is it scary? He owes money, made no attempt to pay, and he will be forced to.

This is all his own doing.

As far as I know, he's on paid administrative leave & is still getting a full salary.

The school hasn't been able to finally get rid of him; he hasn't paid a cent of his fines; he costs the state even more money when he's banged up in jail.....basically, he has them all tied up in knots & nobody has a clue how to bring it to an end.

I wonder who funded the Burke family jaunt over to Washington last week, so they could indulge in another shouting match?

Dougal Maguire

The thing got massively out of hand and it's difficult to see how it's going to end. I know the family are zealots but I have sympathy for him, surely he has a right to his beliefs. I think the school could have possibly done more to deal with the situation perhaps move the boy or the teacher to a different class
Careful now

Have to admire the man for sticking it out. His beliefs are obviously extreme compared to the 2025 Irish norm, but surely there has to be something that should have been done to accommodate his issues with the situation that caused this.

Wouldn't want that outfit teaching my children... suicide rate bad enough in this country...

The Burkes have collectively expressed anti-LGBTQ views, including in 2008 when members of the family protested outside of Dáil Éireann with placards quoting a translation of a verse from Leviticus 18 which states: "Thou shalt not lie with mankind as with womankind. It is an abomination".

Enoch Burke picketed outside St. James's Hospital about linkages between gays and HIV/AIDS.

In 2014, members of the family attending the University of Glasgow distributed leaflets linking homosexuality to incest and pedophilia.

DUP would be at the same carryon, cherry picking passages from the fictional book of crazyiness.

On not obeying the law, sure the law only seems to apply to some not all, these lunatics are taking their lead from those in power who don't heed the law of the land... They'll be a lot more of this coming down the tracks.

Not really scary to be honest. I would have had sympathy at the start for him but he continues to rack up court fines by repeatedly breaking the court order, what do you expect?
If any of us behaved the way he did with our boss, you'd be suspended. If you continued to ignore the suspension day in day out the only outcome is court order. Repeatedly break that and of course this happens.

Look-Up!

Saying they have a backbone or are entitled to their beliefs? That's fine but they are bullies and proven liars and I wouldn't believe the radio in their house. And that's on them because I only have past form to go on.

A lot of talk is about the pupil and him being punished for his beliefs but it is my understanding the school never got to rule on that. Burke lost his job for overly aggressive and intimidating behaviour with the school principal when she was on her way home out the door. She was willing to discuss the situation at a later date but that wasn't good enough for Mr. Precious and other people had to physically intervene so she could get away. A disciplinary committee believed her side of the story and not Burke so that's why he lost his job. Of course in true Burke modus operandi they muddy the waters and try to make it out as religious persecution but they are accusing the school of ruling on something they never got a chance to rule on. Had he a bit of manners and discuss it at a suitable time as suggested who knows what stance the school would have taken with him. If they had tried to pressure him or sacked him for non use of pronouns I'm sure the WRC would have had a field day. And he would have massive public backing, mine included, but it never got that far and I don't think it's fair to accuse the school of something they never got to do and may not have done.

Of course a lot of what I've just typed is conjecture. He could have been massively stitched up, the school could have lied in the disciplinary hearing just to be shot of him, but we will never know that. The hearings didn't believe Burke's side of the story, and I really really couldn't blame them.

You're clearly unaware of the facts of the matter, so I suggest you either refrain from ill informed commentary or else read up on the matter.

How so?

He went out of his way to confront a trans child whom he never taught to impose his religious views on them and to complain to the principal to the schools support of the childs use of pronouns.

Everyone is entitled to their own views and beliefs but once that impacts on others then he was bang out of order.

100% Johnny.
A Pharisee of the highest order.

I'm always amazed how these "Christians" never seem to quote the new Testament.

I'd say the Jesus fella and his "love yer neighbour" would be far  too "woke" to the Burkes and their fellow travellers.
Play the game and play it fairly
Play the game like Dermot Earley.

I could never agree with his delusional religious beliefs. Nevertheless his stance about not using preferred pronouns to accommodate a delusional student will be supported by larger numbers than you think.
Never underestimate the power of complaining

It may well be, but that doesn't excuse his behaviour towards the student, the principal and the school irrespective of his views.

Lots of people hate gays, doesn't make it right to hate them.
