this would generally be the reasoning behind some leaving obviously there can be other issues but we have found a reduced number in the men's anyway and a few new faces back this year hopefully will serve us well !!

Quote from: Gaels1789 on February 21, 2025, 10:40:34 AMI wonder who is gonna replace the 2 connors in the middle of the park,

Eunan Quinn??
Jack lenehan??

Personally I'd stick Eunan Walsh in the middle our best all rounder in my opinion wasted in full back

Personally I think Jordan will go to the middle and Ryan Murray to 11 if fit , Finn Nagle to the middle a bit of aerial presence and potentially Ryan Mcquillan to 13 and Paddy McBride to 12

feel like that would be as strong as we could line out with the players available , any other suggestions??

That South West area seems crazy with so many girls dual players for different clubs. How many clubs down there do both codes for the girls? Randalstown, Cargin, Creggan?

I coach ladies football in the Glens but across our teams we have girls playing camogie for a handful of different clubs but id say it's unlikely any of those will ever start a football team.

IMoneyglass got out of the blocks early on ladies football at the start in the county and attracted some numbers in,  alongside some excellent coaching, got a real head start that has them head and shoulders above the rest of Antrim ladies.

Other clubs are on their way with for example PG1 the latest to kick off ladies juvenile.

Good to see the growth in the ladies game across the county.

Portglenone have just started this year with underage LGFA, up as far as U12......that has put a few Moneyglass and Cargin noses out of joint seeing as they have been poaching girls from there with great success.

Even the tranche of PG1 girls that were brought to Cargin a few years ago, that are now U14/U16, caused a few rows as Moneyglass thought there was an unwritten agreement that they would hoover them all up.

The ones that went from St Comgalls to Moneyglass definitely was as a result of their parents......which cost St Comgalls a couple of referees as well as the players...

Wouldn't be alot of LGFA up around the Glens. Does your club have big numbers?

Not massive but do okay out of dual players. We have girls from as far south as Larne and north as Ballycastle so that's a 40 mile stretch.

It is very hard in this area though as obviously the small ball is the priority. I remember being at a senior training session one night and there was hurling on and there were girls asking me the latest scores for Glenarm, Glenariffe, Cushendall, Cushendun, Carey, Ballycastle and Loughgiel.

One of the biggest difficulties I faced last year with my u14 team was getting teams to come and play us."It's hard for us to get to Glenariffe for a 6.30 throw in on a Thursday". I'm sure it is but you only have to do it once per season, we had to make journeys to Belfast, Lisburn, Aldergrove etc every other week.

And these other clubs will be in no hurry to start LGFA while Glenariffe are providing facilities and use of the pitch, that's just the cold reality of it.
Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

paddyjohn

Did they not win a league a few years back?

What Saffrongael said there is correct, Oisins just provide the Venue

SaffronSports

I think they won Div 3 in 2022 possibly. Relegated from Div 2 in 2023, finished 4th in Div 3 in 2024. Not 100% sure as I'd be around the juvenile teams more as that's where my daughter is.

I think most of those clubs wouldn't be interested in football in general apart from a couple of members. I do think someone in the Glens should take a chance at boy's football as there's a lot go to Glenravel to play so there is some interest but obviously again it's the hurling that's the priority here.
