Quote from: HalfBack7 on February 05, 2025, 11:14:33 AMAll not well in Gortin. Full Committee stepped away! :o
They terminated the link with Glenelly against previous agreements between the two clubs. Didn't sit well with a lot within Gortin.

From what I hear it's the opposite. A group of parents totally against the link with glenelly and have forced the committee out because of it

they want their children to play for gortin only
Where they playing for Glenelly sides at underage level?

Gortin & Glenelly combined are Both Domhnaigh
none of those teams are in the latest minor gradings but the gradings appear strange - a lot of teams in Grade 2 and only 3 teams in Grade 4.

Mondays crisis meeting was a low point for our club. Some low blow comments made on the night. In the end up Thatcher Keenan and the rest of the committee walked. I hope more KC / Omagh lads join us to allow us to field on our own going forward.

Onthe40

very short sighted, if all of a sudden there's a decent group at one age and parents want to go on their own..the baloney amalgamation appears on the outset to have been a roaring success, with both senior teams benefitting..glenelly not be far away soon from promotion
I know the likes of Doiri Oga met with Badoney to get an understanding of how there's worked
Doiri Oga seems to be going well too, though Im sure it will have its challenges also

could a second team not be entered at certain age groups if numbers are bigger than usual?

Gortin needs to ask themselves what's better
amalgamated team at g1 or g2 bringing through good seniors or scraping team in g3-4 fulfilling fixtures

unless they can point to a future path of sufficient numbers to field consistently & competively on their own and a conveyor belt of players capable of keeping Gortin in senior football then its hard to know if there's justification to split

Would they not be better off ,if they have the numbers, of going out on their own and playing 13 lads from the place and developing more players who will actually play for their senior team?

Would a simple interrogation of primary school enrolment data in the area provide such an indication of likely future trends re numbers?

Why did Owenkillew (Gortin/Greencastle) split in the 1980's. is history repeating itself?

I had always assumed that Greencastle formed on their own in the late 60's from what was previously Mountfield?

at some point after that they joined with Gortin at youth level. Owenkillew actually won the County Minor League in 1983 beating Dungannon in the final.

A club who got promoted to Senior Football for the first time since the early 00's should be riding the crest of the wave and seeing where the momentum will take them. Sad to see it working out this way.
Any word on who has taken up positions on the new committee? A lot of long standing club people who done a lot of work are now gone presumably.
Is the amalgamation with Glenelly now completely done away with?

Talbotstephen

Conleith Donnelly over glenelly this year now along with des Tracey. Hearing Conleith got the road from st Peter's lurgan after 6 weeks, was looking money for men lifting cones and collecting balls at training

How could a club ever survive after inviting prince charles to their pitch and making him tea and all. Disgraceful club.

Seen details handed out to junior clubs during the week. With the new 3 and 3A structure, they are going for 8teams in 3 and 10teams in 3A. Surely that makes absolutely no sense? Why not 9 and 9? Instead the teams in 3 have 14 games and the teams in 3A have 18 games, including 5 in 15 days, with the last of those being 13 days out from the championship.

I appreciate organising of fixtures isn't easy, but this is a bit of a nonsense.

Did the clubs not play for 'top 8' last year to be in 3A? Can't just change that now because omagh is entering a 3rds team.

I get your point completely, but you have the perceived weaker teams playing a bagful of fixtures leading up to championship and the stronger teams not under the same pressure. Strikes me as being unnecessarily unfair, but maybe that's just me.

Just do 9 and 9. Had Omagh been in the division last year, that's what they would have done I'm sure.

I don't think that is actually true. Wasn't it a men shed or community group? Scurrilous bullsh*t to say that
