There is almost zero evidence of companies becoming less competitive or workers being less productive since working from home became a thing. It's actually gone the other way. Shorter breaks, people struggling to turn off in the evening, an expectation that you're always available etc.

Obviously some people will take the piss.

Sometimes I wonder has it exposed the inefficiencies in org structures in a lot of companies and the fact there are too many layers of middle management who have a lot less they can do if everyone is WFH. This is then a push back from that.

Our company have downsized the office in Belfast.
We got WFH contracts in 2021 after having worked from home since March 2020.
I think they regretted it a bit because any new employees after that got a hybrid contract.
I plan to retire in a couple of years and all being well I'll only be in the Belfast office eight or nine times before then.
