Winning that would have set us up well and been a kick in the teeth for Fermanagh. Oh well

For once we agree. It should be every young players dream to wear the saffron

These lads are volunteers too and it's a big sacrifice for you and your family to give all that time up to play intercounty so wind it in a bit lads.

Gael-in-exile

There's certainly 4/5 players in EOC who are in my view good enough for county, O'Neill one of them I thought we'd see after his performances the past few years.
However without knowing the selection process (trials, calls, requests etc) it's hard to suggest specific reasons.
Assuming EOC1923 knows more than me on this it seems they have not been selected.
Does anyone know the selection process? I know years gone by players wouldn't have trialled feeling they deserved a phone call into the panel, or wouldn't have committed to the squad standards and then claimed bias against them and their club.

Yeah it's a massive time commitment and is entirely voluntary. McEntee also runs it so that they won't be playing club so fringe players committing a lot of time to ultimately not be playing football is a big ask. That's not a criticism of him - it's how the county game is these days but it is nearly new to Antrim.

Disappointed on the result today. Home against Leitrim must win.

Take the Mark

Some nonsense spouted on here as if theres been some sort of instruction from Cargin to keep their players away from the county. Complete waffle from guys with no clue.

I was in Ederney today, and result aside it was a good display. Plenty of positives. Fair few chances missed as well in a high scoring game (compared to last week) and Antrim could have scored several more on another day.

1 point of note/alarm regarding the manager, he would very, very quickly need to learn to curb his 'enthusiasm'. His antics and gesticulating cost us a score today and will do so again if it doesnt change.

Player wise - positive on the whole for almost everyone on show.

Sportacus

Maybe Cargin are just a good well balanced club team rather than a team with three or four players who are a cut above. The Errigal game exposed a lot, they were second best in every department.  They'd have three or four players as good as most already on the county panel, but they wouldn't be miles better individually.  I've always hoped for big things from Conhuir Johnston but he's having his troubles with injury.

Don't be coming on here expecting intelligent debates, this for for mainly winding people up

How have the professional refs been doing these last few games? Have seen some mares on the telly both weekends

Speaking to a club ref yesterday who was reffing an in house game elsewhere, he had the view that early stages was as much for ref's as players and I'd agree with that much as we might wish ref's to be perfect from the get go.

He also viewed having covered a number of club training sessions about the place that it was going to be carnage (in terms of free awarded) in the club game for the first 3 months. Will have to wait and see in that one.

No issues with ours so far

Been caught at least once for a score but so far so good

After round two and 30+ games the noise levels haven't been too loud so take that as a positive

Are you going to ref this year MR2 or do you think your view of the issues will bias your judgement?

That's a question to any ref and not a dig

Bias in what way?

But I'll be out, we haven't that many refs so it would be unfair to leave. Maybe if we did have more people that felt they could take up the whistle without abuse then I could slip away unnoticed lol..

fact fact check. If Antrim players done as much yapping they would've got Fermanagh yapping more then the ref would've had yap the ball up 50 metres and Antrim would've yapped it over the bar for the equalizer.

Bias in the way that if you feel for example the rule on yapping at refs is too harsh then maybe you won't bring the ball 50 metres forward every time

That's my interpretation, there's questioning my decision and then there's moaning about it, I'm happier for everyone to be respectful and move on..

also seen some instances where the ref thought moving the ball forward because the person fouled got up and ran into a lad who couldn't get out of the way. I'll not be moving it if it's deliberate

Everyone can have an off day as even the Great Errigal side found out
Three Cargin players on the panel unfortunately carrying slight knocks at the minute but I'm sure we will see them in saffron soon(one of them kept Darragh Canavan to a point) I know some who were on panel last year weren't asked up and in my view the best footballer in Antrim Sean O'Neill wasn't even thought about,Angry Andy knows best
