Derry will probably revert to the mean now.

Donegal Armagh Tyrone a good bit ahead of them you'd have to say.
You'll not catch too many out with that one....

You Armagh boys trying to be humble? 😂
Plenty of talent in Derry, they'll not be far away from the top table next year if they get their act together.

Ah there is to be fair but there always was in Derry.

Alot of their success was built on a system of play that was micromanaged to the nth degree.

Not sure if the new rules will suit them either.

For their sake you'd hope they'd get a good few players from their minor squads

But Ill be happy to be proven wrong.

Caolan McColgan and Kevin Lynch will hopefully declare for Derry next year bolstering the already strong squad

Can't see that happening. Expenses be low for them. They could walk to Celtic Park.

Let no-one say the best hurlers belong to the past. They are with us now, and better yet to come

quit yo jibbajabba

Fenton stealing Chrissy's thunder

He'll be back in a year

Huge shock though

Big Surprise that retirement. Would think he had a few years left yet.

From the Irish Times.

QuoteDublin's Brian Fenton makes shock decision to retire
Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in the game, the shock decision will leave void in Dessie Farrell's team

The 31-year-old, widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in the history of the game, will not be involved with Dessie Farrell's squad after making the shock decision to step away.

Fenton's retirement will reverberate well beyond the capital as the two-time Footballer of the Year remained one of the top players in the country, and following his displays in this year's championship he was again nominated for an All Star.
The seven-time All-Ireland winner made his Dublin senior debut in 2015 and over the last decade developed his game to become a standout player on Dublin's All Ireland winning teams

With James McCarthy announcing his retirement only two weeks ago, and speculation that Stephen Cluxton might not be returning, Dublin fans were hoping the likes of Fenton, Ciarán Kilkenny and Con O'Callaghan would lead the dressingroom in the years ahead.
However, Fenton has now also decided to walk away – leaving a big void in the heart of the Dublin team.
The decision of the six-time All Star to retire will come as a huge disappointment to all Gaelic football fans and leaves Farrell facing a significant rebuilding job down the spine of his Dublin team in 2025

Is the ref going to finally blow his whistle?... No, he's going to blow his nose

What a servant that man was for dublin.

Would he be considered as one of the all time greats ? Top 5 for me, no weakness in his game and his accolades speak for themselves.

It wasn't  difficult to  stick around  with a team who were winning  the All Ireland most years.

He will be back  though.

Yeah, him being such a dominant figure on the team not make it more impressive?

Wildweasel74

Wanted to see what way he shape on a average Dublin team.

Cunny Funt

Dublin team and ages that started in the loss to Galway in June.

Stephen Cluxton 42
Eoin Murchan 27 Seán MacMahon 26 Michael Fitzsimons 36
John Small 31 Brian Howard 26 Jack McCaffrey 30
Brian Fenton 31 James McCarthy 34
Niall Scully 30  Ciarán Kilkenny 30 Seán Bugler 26
Paul Mannion 31 Con O'Callaghan 28 Cormac Costello 29

Would have expected Cluxton,Fitzsimons to retire before Fenton, they may yet as rumours that 4 or 5 was to retire.  Big transitional period ahead for Dublin without a high amount of good underage players from successful underage teams waiting for their chance as was the case when Jim Gavin was manager.

To be honest, he was  fairly anonymous in some big games  this last couple of years. He showed  up in  moments, but he was far  from dominating games or  being Dublin's best performer

Armagh18

Serious shock at that one. What a player.

bannside

One of the best ever to play the game.

Rufus T Firefly

One of the true greats of our games. Would be in my All Time 15. Second only to Jacko as the greatest midfielder I've ever seen.
